Audi A4 1.8t sport cabriolet or Saab 2.0ltr vector cabriolet, looking at an 04-05 plate Audi or an 04-55 plate Saab, the Audi is about 300 quid more a year insurance, your thoughts please ladies and gentlemen.

I wouldn't buy that year of Saab, General Motors had let their accountants get too close to Saab at that point at their build quality was nothing short of utter crap. My Aunty had a Hirsch performance Saab 9-3 and that pretty much reduced itself to its component parts in front of her house.

Actually out of those two neither, Cab's should not be driven by blokes...
Whats actually underneath that SAAB though, its not a Vectra with a different body on is it ?

SAAB. Except for the small matter of them being likely to go the way of Rover. If you know a good mechanic, the Saab is a nicer car. If you like main dealers to do your servicing, you might be safer with the Audi. Although, obviously, you will then look like a c0ck.

The saab is a vectra, the company i used to work for supplied the seat control mechanisms for the convertable seats, they were very poor designs, had quite a few failures as well.
I think the audi will be made better tbh, especially as my company supplied VAG also and all their test requirements / specs were at least 50 % higher than everybody else's.

I see a bit of a pattern developing but too early to call yet, my thoughts, we have yet too see a saab up close and personel so to speak, don't seem to be that many for sale round here, but was of the impression that Audi's were maybe of better build quality, not bothered about the sterotype they have company car drivers etc, but want the eventual car to be reliable, cos otherwise both these marques will no doubt cost a fortune to repair, will be going to look at a Saab this weekend, if it's still there.

There has been no such thing as a "proper" Saab since the old 900. GM ruined them IMHO.

The Saab 9-3 is a compact executive car (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_executive_car) produced by the automaker Saab (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_Automobile) in Trollhättan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trollh%C3%A4ttan), Sweden from 1998. The convertible (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convertible) (cabriolet) version was manufactured in Austria by Magna Steyr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Steyr) until 2010, when it was moved to Trollhättan. The 9-3 shares its GM Epsilon platform (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_Epsilon_platform) with the Opel Vectra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opel_Vectra), and with the Cadillac BLS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadillac_BLS), which was made on the same assembly line up until 2009 in Sweden. The 9-3 is currently Saab's entry-level model; between 2005 and 2006 in North America, the Subaru Impreza (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Impreza)-based Saab 9-2X (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saab_9-2X) was its entry-level model.

A friend of mine is a huge fan of SAAB but after changing 3 models in 4 years, all with premature failures of some sort he has given up on them and got a VW.
Out of the 2 choices I would get the Audi for built quality hands down. I don't really care what other people drive. There's always going to be a **** somewhere driving the same care as you.

Just like the Audi is a Skoda with knickers? ;)
Mother dearest has owned a 2004 Saab 9-3 aero 2.0T since new and the only thing that's gone wrong is that the rear suspension springs cracked (which is apparently quite common). Otherwise it's been completely reliable and it's quite a nice looking car too :) I'd probably opt for the Saab over the audi tbh.

Neither, quality on both is suspect, but contrary to popular belief the Saab is actually more reliable (less warranty claims) than the Audi. The Saab just feels flimsy.
The Audi A4 conv scored 212 out of 250 cars in the What Car reliability survey, the Saab came 91st
http://www.whatcar.com/car-news/reliability-survey-2011/258307
Overall Saab comes out worse, but Audi is a poor showing too.
If you want reliability, buy Japanese, VAG stuff is good in my experience, but in the main the Germans have the wool pulled over everybody's eyes.
