My Dad had a similar thing when he was in the Army. His junior officers were not even born when he signed on.

Most of the people I'm at uni with just now weren't born until around 18 years after I left the services.
My daughters, on the other hand are still both at primary school.
Guess I must be a late developer!

Problem is now the service number of the new entry's doesn't mean much, all those with a D or W will be old soon. But yes you are old.........

*Wafts the air of youth and energy through the thread*
Been there and done that. Best one had to be the last bar I worked in. At one point it was the chefs, assistant manger and owner (4 people) that were older than me.
I'm 24 and everyone was at least a year younger than me :(
what age is officially old?
When the media define the music you listened to in your teens and 20's as an era of music.
So Iggy Pop, Rolling Stones and Hawkwind
*Runs and hides*
I'm sure my uncle was D on the services numbers

Kinda got your generations mixed up there youngster :D
Iggy Pop came after the Stone & Hawkwind, and we were listening to Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Status Quo & Springsteen before Iggy came onto the scene about a decade later. :D
Notice I can relate to decades, I've been about that long :farao:

Funnily enough, in tonight's local news paper there is a double page all about naval sayings.
Jackspeak, and how a few naval terms that appear in everyday language.
The one that got me was "I was on the main gate when you were on cow and gate! "
Also cartoons drawn by Lt Cecil (tugg) Wilson that continue to be used in the Navy News.
Another that made me laugh was the term 'pickle jar officer' - A university graduate who can tell you the square root of a pickle onion to three decimal places but cannot get the fooker out of the jar!

Go to the Bikers cafe on the Bridgnorth to Kidderminster road. On a weekday if you are under 60 you will be the youngest there most times. Cheers me up no end :)
