I've got to have a left Haglunds resection and a tendon debridement done on 15th November.
In proper English, that means the surgeon is removing a bone spur from the back of my left heel, taking away bits of my achilles and stapling it back on again then loosening up my calf muscle.
2 weeks in a plaster cast, followed by at least another 2 on crutches, during which time I'll be pretty immobile. Then a long recovery time of up to a year - so no idea when I can get back on the bike.
I can sort of work from home, but I'll still have some time to kill lying out on the sofa. So now might be a good opportunity to read the books and watch the movies I've never had a chance to get to before now.
So orgers - what are your (clean) suggestions of what I can do to keep myself amused while keeeping my foot above my heart for a month as there's only so much international cricket and Radio 4 I can handle?
(And if anyone is in my area of Essex last two weeks of November let me know, as you are welcome to pop round for a cuppa, as long as you can make it yourself)

also sidereel.com :)
I'm just off crutches myself (Since early August), recovering from a broken ankle, and a pulmonary embolism. (watch out for one of them, not nice!)
I was lucky to time it rather well with the Rugby but have also filled up the digital recorder with loads of films.
I hope it all goes well for you, and you don't get too frustrated.

Time to work through Frank Herbert's epic Dune Saga (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_(novel)), I would also recommend Philip Pullman's Northern Lights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Lights_(novel)) trilogy too. Lots of Tom Sharp (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/s/tom-sharpe/) to keep the funny bone lubricated and some Iain M Banks (http://www.iain-banks.net/science-fiction/) Sci-fi to finish off the lot. Failing that, time to check out some amazing foreign language cinema, a particular favourite of mine is Amelie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/). Hope that you heal fast and are back on the bike very soon.

Fantastic book recommendations to which, if you like Iain M Banks particularly, I can add Richard Morgan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Morgan_(author)) and Alastair Reynolds (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alastair_Reynolds).
Hope the op isn't too painful and the recovery goes smoothly.

+1. A colleague and I are working our way through, I started with only knowledge from the games and movies, with the notoriously controversial House Atreides/Harkonnen/Corrino prequels (the Butlerian Jihad Prequel-prequels are apparently not worth reading) and am now halfway through Children of Dune. LPH, you'd do well to lose yourself in the Dune Universe.
My suggestion was... get a PSP that can run Homebrew, you'll have access then to tonnes of emulators for old Nintendo and Sega games, as well as SCUMMVM which lets you run adventure games. Or... get a laptop (or a mouse keyboard and a normal computer nearby) and play an MMORPG like World of Warcraft/EvE/Guild Wars. With all that time on your hands you'll level up fast and be a valued member of any guild or corp quickly.

I think LPH is being an agent provocateur for the mods to see who will break the U rating and get them banned ;)
Now agent provocateur there's a brand I can identify with :smt077
