Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some new tyres for my SV, any ideas where to get them from? Anywhere in the north would be welcome as I travel a fair bit. Basically Stirling down to Manchester. Also as I'm new to the whole biking thing, any recommendations on tyres, I tend to ride in just about anything but snow and ice.

For a recommendation, read the tyre forum... http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=138 :D TBH any modern sports touring tyre will be good.

For buying up north, maybe some others can comment - but I was caught out on the GM in 2010 and got a new rear from Strathearn Tyres in Crieff, who did a good job at a good price. Maybe too far for you?

Doh! I even attempted to search the forum before posting! How did I miss that!

Cheers Mike :D

Hi Simon
Unless you're a fairweather fairy, I'd say Michelin PR3s.
Super grip in the wet, which is when you REALLY need it & mine on the Street Triple show virtually no signs of wear after 2000 miles. Cost me £250.

Metzeler Z6's good in the wet and excellent in the dry even on the track

No complaints here

I got Avon Storms on the recommendation of a few on here.

Don't have much to compare it to, but I like them.

Have a look at a pair of Pirelli Angel ST's. I have them on the GSXR and they are great. Plenty of grip on the road and warm up very quickly. Can get some good lean on them too. Not as sticky as some sportier track focused tyres like the Diablo's but these are built to last (3100 miles and counting) and give me bags of confidence in the wet :-)

i would second the avon storms as they suited the sv perfectly. howver if you can streach to some roadsmarts you will get significantly more milage from them. however they have jumped a lot in price recently!

Hunts are decent for tyers. Pair of Continental Road Attacks for 250 fitted. Ive ran them for 2 years and they have been fine in snow and rain.

I bought my Michelin PR2's from SMD Tyres in Leigh a few months ago, price was around £240/£250 for the pair I think. No complaints apart from the fact they over-inflated them when they were fitted (I didn't check the pressures for about 6-8 weeks after fitting and they were still around 3psi above what they should be; I thought it was a bit eager turning in!).

As for the tyres themselves; they're awesome! I ride everyday in all weathers and cannot fault them. I was debating the BT-023's too but I heard so many good things about the Michelin's that I ended up going for them.

I got mine fitted at Cupar Motorcycles for £199!

I've heard Bill The Biker is also good for Tyres in Glasgow

Roadsmarts or hang on for the Roadsmart 2's as they'll be better again no doubt.

Worth the extra cost over Avon's and Bridgestones
