I was just browsing through some cars on auto trader, I was looking at this car:

And then I saw the colour of the seats :puker:
Why would you have those seats.

Those seats are awesome. But as a closet Volvo fan.......I'm allowed;)
R design? Looks like it. Look at the performance, you really couldn't be giving a stuff about the seats with whats under that bonnet!

Yeah it's a S60R.
True enough about performance, it's just those seats are not what you'd expect to find in a Volvo.

I dont mind it tbh, looks alright.
I think they look cool , olde grandad volvo with a twist and lots of poke, just like people who hate the orange focus st or the lime green RS... different is good :smt098

Not really. The R design seats are all funky, but I reckon you'd get the choice of orange if you bought new anyway. Most folk only for the black and white leather ones....only the daring go for something a little different. :p

That's an S60R - very different beast to R-design.
R-design is like Audi's S-line, or BMW's MSport. It's just some fancy body parts and stiff suspension.
The S60R was Volvo's brief foray into making genuinely fast cars. It's more like an Audi S4 or BMW M3.
Awesome car.

I once had a coupe with red leather seats. I've never had so much ghey p!$$ taking from all my mates, beware!
(it was even once decorated with a red leather jock strap after they'd watched the Full Monty one night)

I've got Tan Leather seats in my Alfa. Not my choice but it grew on me and now I like them.

It's not too bad considering it's got 300hp, and it's AWD.
ergh!!
ERRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Btw, I have a 1.3 diesel corsa :) I think this has made my expectations of other car's fuel efficiency slightly skewed.
But still....... ERGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

No better than our V6 poofwaggon:smt045 slightly better I think
edit.......its bloddy worse, wow makes ours look more efficient lol!
Everything wrong with autos. Never should a world exist where you don't have the option of changing gears manually. It would be a lot worse off.

I think Auto is the future for the majority of cars, possibly bikes as well, I'm not sure.
But they'll always be manual versions to enjoy as well.
Autos are getting better and better all the time, and they're now much faster at changing gear than we are.
Theres nothing better on a long trip than an auto, whacking on the cruise control and catching 40 winks ;)

I've only ever driven one auto car, that was a ford cortina, so a while ago ;) Edit, the fuel consump's not that bad, I thought it was gonna be about 12-15 the way you were all going on.

Yeah I think it's quite reasonable.
I've never driven an automatic, but the last one I was in was a supercharged VXR8, now that had pretty poor MPG. (about 10 if you were even slightly pushing it.

Last auto I drove was a Ford Escape, driven them before in many other cars. The temptation, especially with power steering, is to drive one handed and get a taxi driver's tan on the other arm. Apart from that laziness (and the fact I tend to let off the gas in preparation to shift even when I don't have to) I don't mind them at all.
My parents always had them (my mother doesn't like manuals) so when my dad bought a car for himself he asked for the very unusual option (!!) of a manual for his Chevy Cavalier. It had a 'shift up' light in place of the tacho which drove him crazy.

I hate manuals, I last drove one several years ago, where I decided that the best thing to do with the gear stick was either throw it out of the window or insert it somewhere the instructor wouldn't like . I passed the car test last year in an auto(many year after giving manuals a miss), and drive an auto V6 Freelander.
Why fanny about with a stick when you can chuck it in gear and get on with it?
My dad has always loved autos, although his current A6 is manual, he was converted by a Ford Granada
I would not ever ride an auto bike however...but then I rode first before I drove, and thats just wrong to even think of an auto bike!

Don't think we'll have a lot of choice when the petrol runs out, it'll all be CVT gearboxes like the Toyota Hybrids.
Good excuse for being too **** at driving to use a manual properly db :)

Buy it! Orange seats and all. Just be prepared to get through front tyres at an alarming rate (even with AWD the S60R eats tyres for breakfast). We're on our second Volvo - not the most dynamic cars we've ever owned (that's what the bikes are for) but the most comfortable by far.

Everything wrong with autos.
I used to feel this way about auto 'boxes, but recent improvements have changed my mind.
In the old days of stodgy oil pressure operated autos they were horrid, truly horrid, but more modern ones with electric control of the 'box are excellent, many of the latest ones are simply better than we'll ever be at changing gear, (and getting the right one every time too), and because of the electric control there will usually be a pseudo-manual mode anyway.
Try one, you might like it. I was surprised, maybe you will be too.

The only modern one I've tried is the VW DSG, in a Audi. There is still this shunt when the gears change, as if the clutch is engaged and disengaged too quickly, especially when asking the car to accelerate a bit harder. If you shift a manual gearbox and clutch you should be able to shift, such that if your passenger was blind and deaf (ie: they only feel the movement) they'd be hard pressed to know that you had changed gear.
The only auto box I've ever driven that achieved seamless consistent acceleration like this was a Lexus LS400.
(talking about auto boxes with gears, not CVT's).

I love those S60s. My Dad used to have one with the D5 engine, it was the most comfortable car I have ever been in, those seats are just brilliant. Pretty quick too.
No one expects a Volvo to be quick so when you decimate some k**b on the road in your 300bhp S60 his face will be a picture to behold.

Nope......I have a bloke with half a knee, who sits in great pain driving a manual car, so therefore no point in having a manual gearbox ever.
