Its ever since I went to France with Phil, he changed me. FOREVER lol! Not in a ghey way btw lol

What you on about?

Fastest ive probably ever ridden apart from my one track day.

Was ace though wasnt it, especially when we both felt 'on it' at times and the traffic was quiet :)

I was referencing the pi55 take about me being old.

Yes it was the trip of a life time and I want to do it again. I learnt more about riding in those 10 days than I have in 8 years of ownership.

It was the single best experience i have had on a bike - Hangovers aside and Southern Comfort lol

Problem.

The wet weather means I can’t wear my gheyer then ghey new white race boots.

Looking at the forecast I have gone for the trusty old gortex, as they are the only boots I have ever owned that don’t leak.

I would suggest everyone packs a spare set of gloves cos riding in wet leather gloves is ****!

Bring spare guy ropes and spare pegs David, you are going to need them! :)

Damnit!

Oh well I can always hold my outer sheet down with all the spare calipers I'm bringing

Specialone
23-04-12, 06:00 PM
Dave, wassup with your existing caliper? Can't you just rebuild that with a seal kit?

Dave20046
23-04-12, 06:04 PM
I've serviced them and they're still binding to buggery, I'm thinking there might be something up but haven't the time available to make sure. Going to bring them as spares

danf1234
23-04-12, 06:09 PM
Sure the pistons are OK?

Master cylinder knackered / sticking?

Dave20046
23-04-12, 06:10 PM
I'm suspecting the mastercylinder more and more, but the movement of the pistons in the calipers makes me suspect the calipers more.

danf1234
23-04-12, 06:15 PM
Are the pistons scored or damaged?

Are the pistons moving freely, or one slower than the other etc?

If one is dragging its ar5e out, then there is a good chance it aint retracting freely either???

Dave20046
23-04-12, 06:23 PM
It's not retracting, this is the issue. Possibly not straight movement, worried they're a bit cocked/crooked.

a couple are rock solid to move.

Balls! Just realised I left my spare gloves in with a load of stuff back oop north.

Gonna go for full textile kit in the hope that at least some of me will stay dry and compensate for the soggy hands

Dave20046

I'll try bring you some christian if I can. (and I make it). my gloves are all described as medium / large

danf1234

Dave you sure you have flipped any of the seals over when rebuilding?

Check the master cylinder over again and again, cos anything complex always points straight to that!

Dave20046
23-04-12, 07:09 PM
yep, they're built properly

Don't get me paranoid about the mastercylinder or I'll actually entertain the idea of a drive to durham for one!

Silly question, Its not lever related is it?

Btw, I've been scanning various weather channels and the general consensus is sunny spells with a few showers, so I remain hopeful it won't be too bad.

That said, I don't normally take much notice of weather forecasts until day before as it usually changes.

Word of warning. With all the weight on the back, and quite far back as well it will make the front a lot lighter. I found out the hard way on the way to Porlock, when I nailed it off from some lights and the front came right up.
I also found roundabouts a bit "different" with a fully loaded SV, especially the mini ones that you have to go at snails pace round.

Thanks for the heads up - its actually not that heavy, the tent is super light and one dry bag is purely just sleeping stuff so thats pretty light too. Only real weight is in the bag on the pillion but thats not much heavier than other bags I have taken in the past. I can picture the small roundabouts being a bit fiddly though ! I should also point out there's a renntec rack at the back, hence it going back slightly further

Already taken care of!

24-04-12, 05:58 PM
I had to road test mine and go get fuel this afternoon (bolox, it was the first dry sunny afternoon in ages and I just wanted an excuse).

Good job though 'cos the tail pack kept falling off the rear rack. A few cable tie adjustments and it's sorted now (I think, if anyone sees my tail pack bouncing down the M40 or A34, stop and pick it up please??).

When my son is old enough to do come on camping trips, or stay home alone and let me and the wife go, I'll definitely be buying something like a Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 with full hard luggage.

The front did lift once or twice, but 150bhp litre sports bikes sometimes do that when you nail it anyway.

F4LL3N
24-04-12, 06:06 PM
I only took mine round the corner, but didn't feel any different to me than taking pillion really ! Looking forward to this though :D

Been thinking, if the first day touring goes well time wise it might be a good idea to get to the campsite by 3pm ish as the site office shuts between 3 and 5pm.

It will give us chance to get tents up etc and we'll probably all be knackered by then ;)

The deer was a nice practical test

Although I may be happier with them with my spazzo levers fitted when I road test them.

Davis, did you test your spazzo levers directly after fitment for brake binding and it appeared on the I.O.M after some time or could it have been there from the start?
I've had my wheel up and inspected it thoroughly at the lever and it seems fine. Take it yours haven't snapped under pressure and half killed you either?

And yes I am bringing spare levers!

Yep, I've split the sight seeing as you know into 3 zones, east, central and west, it makes sense to do the east stuff on day 1 as were passing them on the way from le havre.

Ferry lands at 7am, I think we should get some breakfast then hit the road :)

ravingdavis
24-04-12, 10:53 PM
I ended up taking my Spazzos off as I decided I don't like short levers. I discovered they were binding a while after they were fitted during the last carnage when they got wet and stopped returning. They were fine when first fitted. I would recommend taking sandpaper and some grease if your going to put them on. I didn't have them on during my trip to IoM.

I agree, but at 7.00am in le havre, a busy industrial area, its the best and quickest solution.
Sweet little bistros wont be open at 7.am even if we can find them.

No, I'm now going to Phil's tomorrow morning, leaving the bike in his garage, then going to a meeting in Brum, then back to Phil's in the afternoon. You'd be best going down the 42 to Phil's. It's a bit longer than M1/A43, but not much.

Just make sure the little thing or other isn't the Mrs.

I would have loved to have joined you this weekend, but didn't commit to it as I was worried my foot would not be fully healed. Turned out to be the right decision as I had to have MRI and ultrasound yesterday to investigate why I'm still walking like Long John Silver.

Instead I shall be indulging in a facial and pedicure on Saturday morning and the Essex Bikesafe event on Sunday - probably in the car.

So just to say have a fantastic trip, hope the weather cheers up a bit for you and no one breaks down/falls off/chokes to death on a french fry at McDonalds.

Maybe see some of you at the AR where is definitely won't be raining.
