Over 3-4 days though Col that would add another 300 miles ish to the overall total, there must be tons on campsites further north, if they will accept 15 bikers (if we get that many) I'd be happy to go off Als recommendations.
The coast is littered in campsites, but I think Al's option would be more suited to a group of adult bikers, if we want to be nearer the coast. Camping holidays are very popular in France and if you look at most of the campsites along the coast they are essentially water parks and childrens entertainment complexes.
Example: http://www.campinghautescoutures.com/

Other possibilities further north in case Al's campsite can't/won't take us.

Are these the sort of water parks where you ride your bike in, realise it's deeper than you first thought and then have to have help getting the bike out again, with quite a lot of swearing, which serves as children's entertainment and also makes the rest of us laugh? If so, sounds perfect! :D

Had a bit of a google streetview mooch around Creully where the trois rivieres campsite is, and it's quite a nice wee town as north of France standards go, it's also about a 1km walk to the centre from the campsite, which has shops, bakers for morning croissants, cafe's and pubs. It looks like the best campsite if they will have us.

Me too :p
The campsite emailed me back and if my limited french translation was correct, they were asking if we would be requiring motorhomes.
I forgot to say we would be camping i think so with the aid of google translate, ive emailed back and told them it would be tents all round :)

Most campsites in France are a bargain mate, we stayed in a municipal one on the side of a large river south of Dijon and it was 3 euros a night :)
-Ralph-
12-01-12, 06:21 PM
Reasonable discount they are giving there actually, the website says EUR 3.70 per adult, EUR 3.90 for the pitch and 20 cents local taxes, so it should be EUR 7.80 for a single person, and EUR 11.50 for you and Claire.

What they are probably doing is what we had when we went in september, getting 2-3 tents on one pitch so that's where the discount is I reckon.
No more likely to have anything stolen in France than you would here IMO.

You might just have been lucky so far mate. Just talking about it with Sandrine, her typical family holiday was camping/caravanning and she doesn't think it's any better or worse in North or South, but says it does make a difference whether you go you a cheap campsite, or an expensive one, ie: less scroats go to the expensive ones.
She advises not leaving anything you really mind loosing in the tents wherever they are though. For instance when camping here we generally take a pitch with electric and we leave our thermoelectric coolbox worth about 80 quid plugged in all day the tent, she says in France she'd never do that.

Just trying to warn you, if you left something in the tent and it got nicked and after I said "yeah, French campsites can be like that" you'd be saying "WTF didn't you tell me that before?"
Will be fine, not like you can carry much on a motorbike anyway, so it's not like two weeks worth of luggage and belongings will be in the tent. Anything I have of value will be on my person or in my tankbag during the day, if they want my sweaty sleeping bag and a few pairs of underpants they can have it ;-)
The campsite we are on looks quite small anyway, so you'd think people that don't belong would get clocked by the owners.

No problems with theft on this campsite I would imagine chaps. On the edge of a nice little village away from the main towns with pretty decent security - keycard barrier to get on site and there seems to be one of the owners (and their big dogs) there 24/7. Even though it's cheap, it's well maintained, tidy and has spot on modern facilities. It's prob cheap as they don't have a bar or cafe or disco (not until you guys get there :thumright:) - you can order baguettes and stuff from the reception on the night to be delivered by the local patisserie in the morning.
IIRC the pitches are pretty decent size with defintiyl room for at least 2 tents and 2 bikes. Some of the pitches have a decent view over the rolling countryside.
Getting slightly jellous now as wish I was coming!! What a cracking time you are going to have.

We don't have much choice about mways at this end, it's hammer down there after work on the Thursday for most of us, not got time for the scenic route. Well I haven't at least.
You not got waterproofs? I have a one piece oversuit you could borrow, size XL. I'll be in kevlar jeans and a textile jacket, so I'll only need waterproof overtrousers with me.

Yeh im in the same boat, so to speak, will be a blast down after work (once i book of course).
Nah its nots the waterproofs that ar my current thought/concern, its tyres. 675 comes as standard with supercorsas. And, well to put it nicely, lets just say they dont perform well in the wet .

You two guys make your plans and I'll either fit in with them at the last minute or I won't.
My wife coming means running my son over to my mothers in the car with me in convoy on the bike, leaving the car and my son in Solihull, wifey jumping on the back and leaving from Brum.
Me only, I can come down the A46, but it is a bit of a detour and will mean I need to get away from work an hour or so earlier.
Me only, but pushed for time, and I'll definitely head straight for Bicester and the top of the A34.
I'm 7 miles south of Kettering, 10 miles North of Northampton BTW.

One thing to bare in mind is that traffic around Farnham at rush hour times is usually a total stand still. Depending on when you plan to be heading past there (if you take the advised route) you may want to factor this into your timing estimates for the journey.
