Time for a clean...

Well having only owned the bike for a couple of months, while the weather has been kind I have been out on it.

As the weather will be closing in I thought I would get it all cleaned before it doesn't get used. Wish I had not started though how nice the weather has been the last few days.

Having looked at the threads on here with regards to getting the exhaust clean again, I went and purchased some Optiglanz from Hein Gericke.

I think with a bit more work it will come up better, although after trying to take it off, I have broke off one of the bolts that go into the head (well I didn't, my dad that was helping did it) so I need to try and get the other out in one piece and then try and remove the stud. Been searching all over the forum for hints on the best way to go about it :smt036

Anyone know if this is the original exhaust? as I have a spare system to go on for MOT purposes and it looks different to that, the connector seems to be further up towards the downpipe?

Its been cut to fit the ART that has been taken off, but then this is the remainder and the image above of it mid way.

While I have the side panels off, they have been subject to a 3 stage polish, wax and will seal it when back on the bike. I also tried to clean around the engine while doing the exhaust. Some of the crap has come off but I think to do it properly then it would have to be stripped, and I am not going that far :smt036

Have my new can to put on but will need to sort out the exhaust problem now before I can :(

Invest in some left hand drill bits for the broken stud. Centre punch what's left and slowly drill it out using a drill in reverse with a l/h bit. The l/h bits create some heat which helps break corrosion and bite into the snapped stud then the l/h motion unscrews the broken portion. I swear by my set of l/h bits, they've helped me out no end since I bought them and it's so much easier than having to helicoil or retap threads.

Don't use easy-outs or screw extractors, just the l/h drill bits.

Thanks for the advice, we have tried the plus gas on the other one along with heat to try and get that out without breaking, but so far not with success.

Will be trying again over the weekend as I want to try and get out for a ride before its too late and the weather gets worse. Don't mind cold as long as its not wet :lol:

Well its all cleaned and fixed now, had to take it somewhere as the other broke as well. The guy that did it said he was no surprised it broke as he couldn't get them out heating them up either. Eventually they had to be drilled out and he helicoiled them in the end.

Went for a MTS Tri Oval stainless steel can with carbon outlet and road legal, and I am glad I did. It looks good and the quality of it is top notch. Also got a R&G Exhaust hanger in the end after my failed NWS one from eBay and it fits with it perfect.

Also fitted my new rear hugger I managed to get off eBay for £25 already in the right colour, as I will have to remove the undertray shortly.

Next job is the undertray and tail tidy, as I think I will have to replace the standard undertray as I believe that it has been modified to fit this undertray.

I did have a more straight hanger but it didn't fit, its a nice bit of kit but it should be for £46 :lol:

When I was searching myself it does look like that, but with the part that goes up in between the rear light missing.

Dunno if its easier to replace it with one of them or get a standard undertray complete and leave it as that.

Well finished the cleaning off today and put the fairings back on, cleaned all the wheels, screen etc...

Nice, and I do lurve that can.

Get some decent crash bungs too, those ones look like they mount on the fairing stays...fecking useless.
