View Full Version : Do you have any unusual phobias?
Talking with a girl I had just met on a date the other night we got on to this subject and I couldn't help but laugh when she told me she had a phobia of flushing the toilet at night time! she has to turn the light out and flush then run away to her bedroom in the dark!? LMAO.
My mum has a strange one as well where she's scared of plant roots, like any plants that had them showing she would have me chuck them away or cover them up, and once we went to a tropical rainforest thing kind of like the Eden project and she needed her hand held over this bridge because there were roots to the side of this bridge then she refused and had to go outside. LMAO
So have any of you guys got any strange ones?

I used to work with a woman who had omphalophobia - which is a fear of belly buttons. If you pulled up your tshirt while standing next to her and she found her self close to your exposed belly button she would faint!

I have a fear of getting caught.
Fortunately alcohol cures me of it.

Long tunnels or being underground e.g. Tube or something like Mnt Blanc Tunnel.
All to do with mining incidents in the past.

now that would be great, you could take her to parties as your party trick :-)

lol, the toilet flushing thing is a bit weird but then again i have a fear/phobia of seeds that fit snuggly into a pocket like a pomegranate - or walnuts - i can look at them out of their "pockets/coverings" but freaks me a bit as they are .. i know, weird! (i know i not alone with this one tho cos i've read of other people who it bugs) :)

Littlepeahead - Oh god, that's quite serious! Bet she has never stepped foot on a beach or swimming pool.
Minimorecambe - How bizarre, what's the worst that could happen lol.
timwilky - lol, alcohol always lets your guard down.
Dickyticker - Is that a type of clostraphobia?
SuzukiNess - You're weird! :P What scares you about them?
Owenski - Haha I can imagine, or if he ever passes out, bring out the bottle of ketchup! Do you know why or is there no reasons for it that they know of?

@ Jordy - its probably about as irrational as the fear of tomato sauce :) dont know.. must be something from my childhood thats deep and dark and burried never to be understood.. :) i have an irrational fear of frogs too, but that i know stems from being chased by step-father holding one as a really young child..

No,it is not clostraphobia,I don't mind small spaces[e.g.lifts],its a fear of cave-ins,being buried alive, fire along with the amount of accidents and deaths that occur underground.
Probably not a lot of people on here have ever worked down a pit or mine so its hard for me to explain.

My nan's scared of 'small spoons' yep, that's tea spoon not some sort of mutant tiny spoon people slip in your food to choke you on.
My house mate is scared of cotton wool and moths - he doesn't sleep much.
An old teacher was scared of cottonwool too so we used to fill his pockets with it and tape it under door handles. He once couldn't go home one night until another member of staff was available to dig his car keys out of a pack.
I'll think of more...

There's an obvious question to be asked there!

He finds they intentionally fly directly into his face when I open my hands. Then he goes a bit white runs off and curls up/sits rocking somewhere.
He needs an urgent prescription for two testicles...
I'll question him about the evil dust?
Or I could tell him I powdered some into his food and see how he reacts?

I have a fear of Bear and inflatable paddling pools if the two are within 20 feet of each other - but with good reason.

I always thought that there was nothing that scared me, then while on a caving trip I got stuck in a tube. Drowing under ground is now something that fills me with utter pant wetting dread.
I also love critters, usually the ones that other really dislike. However, when I saw this (http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_breast_larvae.htm), I actually felt very weird and had nightmares.

Theres one thing that makes me swear, shiver, gives me cold sweats, panic attacks and makes me scream like a biatch whilst pacing about pulling my own hair out.
I feel sick just thinking about it
Its when the missus goes near the credit card.

My wife has houseworkeyetis or its full latin name
idratherbewatchingcrapdaytimetvthandoinganythingus eful
But is reaction to her mothers OCD cleaning routine that she had to put up with all her young life.
Its not full blown houseworkeyetis, as she manages to do the ironing whilst watching TV

As a child (up to the age of about 12) i thought there was a witch that lived down the toilet. I would pull the flush and run away.
Sounds like the witch moved in with your date.
I am afraid of heights. Legs go to jelly and cold sweats.
One of my brothers X's was petrified of ladybirds (not others bugs/worms) and small people (dwarf height).

Dunno if there was some childhood trauma but it gives us entertainment now and thats all that matters. He's paralised if you go to a greasy spoon and you've got those squeezy bottles, his genuine idea of terror is for the lid to fly off and sause to go everywhere.
The lad afraid of the cheese is quite scary with it, he'll laugh cautiously if you waft it near him but get too close and he gets a little possesed and it can take a few to hold him back. He refuses point blank to approach any buffet table incase the person next to him selects a cheese snak.

I have a phobia of spending money. While rare around these parts I hear it's quite a common phobia in Scotland. I also have a phobia of women mainly because it links back to my previous phobia.
