Not good, how often do vehicles do this sort of thing? You see it time and time again on those police camera shows, so its not like its a one of freak event.
RIP Mark.
Stay safe Pete!

RIP Mark

Last motorway breakdown (daughters car puncture on the M6) I went to, I saw her position on the hard shoulder and the fact the tyre was already knackered and took the decision to drive it the 500 yards off the motorway to change the tyre.

I have changed tyres etc on the hard shoulder and it is honestly frightening. People who deal with motorway breakdowns on a daily basis must have seen so many near misses that they wonder if this one will be their last whenever they stop to help others. I seem to recall that the hard shoulder is statistically the most dangerous section of the motorway. Stupid that what should be a refuge should turn out to be the lane for the incompetent and dangerous.

RIP Dude.

Heard this on the news this morning, I see lorry drivers drift half into the hard shoulder regulary for some reason.

Was the lorry driver foreign by any chance? Just lately I keep hearing about more and more accidents with foreign drivers.

See one a few weeks ago on helicopter heroes, French bloke on the wrong side of the road, A road in Yorkshire somewhere, hit a biker head on.

I was on my way to visit my dad in hospital last night but got stuck in the insane traffic jam leading upto the incident. I did think that closing the 3 junctions ahead of the incident was quite strange but assumed there must have been either a serious injury or fatality.

What shocked me more was the absolutely outrageous driving by many, many people who decide to throw the highway code out the window the moment there's a big queue on the motorway. Crossing solid white lines, barging their way through, not letting each other in, texting & phoning etc.

Still, very very sad for the guys family - RIP :(

Always a shame to lose someone, especially when they were helping others.

The foreign lorry menace is always uppermost in my mind on all roads and I consciously check licence plates now as I approach big trucks. Be careful out there all.

Stay safe Pete!

Lorries are more often that not, over the white line and in the hard shoulder. I travel miles on motorways everyday, (Kent to Manchester tomorrow morning) and lorry drivers inc English ones are always in there! I always think, 'if someone had broken down there, they'd be screwed right now'.

I'm surprised more deaths aren't caused this way... I've changed many wheels on motorway hard shoulders and it scary stuff! Particularly on a transit can where the wheel is on the underside rear of the van, laying under the back of it trying to get the rusted thing off!

I know you guys do a great job. I commute 90 miles a day mostly on your patch Pete, including Death Valley and see loads of lane drifting all the time. it seems that most of them are on hand held phones as do about 20% of all motorway users. I'd like to see a campaign as high profile as drink driving and start to hear of some convictions of these idiots. Do you pull and report many for this Pete ?
