SV650S winter hack bargain

2001 SV650sy. Reg. Y794HTA.

Presently have a friend's SV650 in the garage. It's tired looking, lots of corrosion under the lacquer on the fork lowers. Starts and goes well but to my ears there's a, possibly, timing chain rattle under load when cold. Or maybe that's how they sound. It's the S model by the way.

I rode it up here to Southport a few weeks ago from Devon and it went well. It's a carb model. It's been refinished black. She bought it from a dealer in Ilfracombe. It had been in an accident and repaired. Exhaust has an ugly weld / repair. Can't be sure of mileage as clocks are non-original because of the crash / repair but she's only done about 2,000 miles on it in the past four years. Tyres seem good and it's just passed an MOT without problem. Tax is quite long too.

You can view the bike at my house (Tarleton, Southport) and you're welcome to speak with the owner to discuss the price. She's in the process of selling-up in Devon and relocating up north or overseas (things are a bit up in the air for her at the moment). You can inspect / check the bike and its history to your heart's content but I'll want some security before you disappear on a test ride.

I'll see if I can figure out how to post some pics on this forum but failing that, just email me and I'll send you a couple of high-res images. From my enquiries I've been given to believe the bike's worth about eight-hundred pounds.

thats not bad mate-stick it on ebay with a buy it now of 1200 but accept best offers, most folk will get rid of the tattie launcher anyway, a couple hours with the autosol will clean it up good and ensure you get some more readies especially with a years mot

and your bikes nice some size lump in it.

That Guzzi was a bike I owned in NZ up until a year or so ago. Very involving to ride but a pain in the backside when it went wrong.

£800 is definitely undervaluing it, a bit of a clean up and £1200 would be easy, I'd say it was worth a tad more maybe £1400 with that milage if its correct?

That corrosion will polish off dead easy & like Husky says most folk would get rid of the OEM rocket booster pipe exhaust anyway

With respect I've got to whole heartidly disagree with that.
If you're considering at priced to sell then you'll not get over £1000 for even the nicest curvy.
This is loverly looking but its doesnt distract from the fact its been down the road and the true milage is unknown. As Husky said put it on ebay at £1200 and wait for the offers, someone may feel if they offer you £800 it is them getting a bargain and it'll disappear sharpish with very few questions asked.
However if you wanted that to sell on here I'd have my fingers toes and everything else crossed even for £600

The time of year really counts against you as well, you're selling a bike when most people are looking for a hack or winter project.

to put it in perspective a fully stripped and rebuilt curvy with forks painted and serviced, engine painted, 20000miles, the tail tidy, exhaust and r6 rear shock only shifted for £900 and that was back in March when people were starting to be looking for a summer ride.

Good luck with the sale, but I wouldn't go anywhere near £1200. I put mine up for that & never had a single sniff. If you want to sell, put it up cheap & you should have a chance.
Sorry to put a downer on it, but on apossitive note It would make the good base for a mini twin for somebody at the right price :)

SV's are regularly selling for far more than 1K!?

But as has been said, the fact that that one has been down the road and unknown mileage etc is going to seriously put people off. Id put it on ebay at £1000 or best offer and see what happens....

I picked up a nice curvy last weekend with hagon rear, linear front springs (and preload adjusters), recent clutch, R6 throttle conversion, braided hoses and 8 mths MoT for £900. I know the guy I bought it off and the previous owner to him. No corrosion on the forks, only a year's worth of dead flies.
