You don't see it on the video, but the front of the bike was COMPLETELY submerged when I picked the bike up.
Engine took on water, spark plug is hard to get to and we didn't have the right tools, took us half an hour to get it out. Eventually turned it over with water shooting out the spark plug chamber, but once we got the plug back in, there wasn't enough juice left to turn the starter. Phil towed it up and down the lane a few times, but it wasn't for bump starting, so we pushed it up the road and called the AA. Whilst waiting for them things had time to dry out a bit, and we drained water out the airbox and drained the carb bowls. The AA stuck a booster pack on it and it fired within a few turns. We should have just taken the battery out of Phil's bike, but we were scared of flattening that and being left with two disabled bikes.
I'm going back next year (in summertime when it's a bit warmer and I'm not in full winter textiles), that ford is NOT beating me! But I'll walk through first next time and choose my route. I didn't walk it this time. You know why? I didn't want to get wet!
I was soaked from right shoulder to left hip. It was a very cold 50 mile motorway ride home!

Awesome! You need momentum to stay upright, try giving it the full beans next time and aquaplane it! Or just get off and swim :p

Thanks for posting that - cheered me up no end. Haven't been on two wheels since last weekend and even landing on your @rse in a river looks more fun than driving everywhere.
I've got to ask about that sign though. Surely if it's "Impassable at ALL times" it isn't really a ford?

It was a 12 -18 inch trench in the river bed mate. Standing in the same trench as the bike I was waist deep. Even if I'd been going quick enough to stop the front wheel immediately plunging into it, I'd have been screwed when the back wheel hit it a second later.
Gravity is gravity and a 165kg bike with a 110kg rider sinks!

The council have to put up a sign that applies to all types of vehicle. If we'd been in a car it's still be in there
A 4x4 did go down there whilst we were waiting for the AA. He had a snorkel on but as sudden and deep as that trench was, I do wonder if he's still in there

Mr LPH and I just had a nice chuckle watching that - even though he wrote our BMW 5 series off driving through something similar a couple of years back. My advice - next time put your Speedos on so there's something for the ladies.

That was awesome, I really wanted to have go after seeing the first video, the second one of being towed did not look so much fin though. I have only been towed once and hated it!
Hmm, motorcrossers are just like mountain bikes then, they encourage silliness and getting soggy? I so need to invest in one!

oo think we can do better than that, we can give him a suit, throw in a helmet and a bike that doesn't need emptying of water

Just think of the feeling of redemption that you'll get when you post it ;)

Special One has a much lighter DRZ on smoother tyres that would aquaplane much easier. I think he should try it first and I'll take the video.

I get the feeling your chicken. Where's your sense of adventure.
Think like Doctor Pepper - whats the worst that could happen.
You'll get a little wet again but that feeling of sucess you'll get as you float across and watch the others fail behind you.
