View Full Version : Would you pass the Theory test?
After discussion about the theory test on another thread I was wondering how well people who have been riding for a while would do on the bike theory test especially if you passed the test before it was in place. Theres two example ones on the direct gov site.
So... do the test & put up the results & how long ago you passed
Test1 (http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/documents/digitalasset/dg_187182.htm)
Test2 (http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/documents/digitalasset/dg_187183.htm)
I got 46/50 test 1, 47/50 test 2 & did my theory in Feb 2011
No cheating now!

Yup, I passed my theory test for the car last year, after a gap of seven years between the two.
There are very few differences between the car and bike tests, you may be lucky and get one that may be relevant for either.......cheeky way of getting more money out of you if you ask me,
Anyway, I got a total of three wrong between the two parts. Observation bit being the better of the two. Piece of cake.

50 out of 50 on both tests:cool:
1st one 47 mins left
2nd one 49 mins left
Still can't ride a bike for toffee
Bike test 2008
HGV 2005
Car 1981 no theory back then. Edit make that 1991
As DB says you'll be lucky to get more than about 3 questions relating to riding a motorbike in your bike theory test, same applies to the HGV test.

test 1: 46/50
Passed my theory & practical in May 2007... At what rate should compressions be given to someone who isn't breathing?
50/100/250/400 - I chose 50 but would need to check this? Is first aid taught on the run up to theory tests nowadays? Apart from that the rest of the questions were fairly standard for what I'd expect :)
LOL this is working exactly the opposite than I thought it would. Since I did mine quite recently I thought I would do better than someone who had either never done it or passed a long time ago. I should add I passed my car test about 15 years ago so I'm not lacking in road experience.
I suppose most of it is common sense but I thought there was a couple in there that would trip people up.

4 wrong on both tests
Pass
Most of the questions just seemed like common sense to be honest.

Test one scored 47/50 and the same for test two. Questions I got wrong were silly ones where I misread the question or thought that the question was ambiguous.
I took my theory test in 2008 and passed first time and then took my module one and module two, both of which I passed first time, with a combined total of four minors from both tests. I get to take my restriction off in April too, so have spent the time riding a restricted bike and learning road skills as I have progressed.
I am a proper girly swat me! Also the wife is a Senior Instructor Trainer, so I have to be good or she tells me off!

test 1 44/50
test 2 46/50
Mostly medical questions wrong. Just hope your not needing first aid when I come by.
Passed my bike in the late 70's. Ride around the block, examiner jumps into middle of road then back to test cente 2 or 3 questions on highway code. Rode away without L-plates.

I got 48/50 on the first and 47/50 on second. I passed my bike test in 1997 and car test in 1981, I have never needed to take a theory exam.

47/50 and never taken a theory test (1979), never had electric tram questions in my day, lol
46 & 47 respectively...
Passed my bike test in 78 and car test in 79. All we had to watch out for back then was the guy with a red flag

48/50 Test 1, 47/50 Test 2. Did it fo'rizzle back in 2007 (car test in 2002), I used to subscription option on that very website to have access to unlimited practice tests and spent my late shifts doing test after test until I was consistently passing with a good score.

question 21 "riding up to a crossing, you are intending to stop, what signal do you give to the pedestrians and other vehicles?" when i passed my test in 2009, my instructor always said "never give pedestrians or other vehicles a signal that you are stopping at a zebra crossing, just stop and dont wave people across etc" anyone else had this?

It's one of those wierd contradictory ones - I'm sure it says elsewhere that if you're stopping you shouldn't have your hands off the handlebars too.
Like flashing your lights at someone is to 'alert them to your presence' in reality who actually uses it for that purpose?
47/50 on the first one. Guessed the first aid questions and got both wrong and I didn't sound my horn at the unmarked junction.
Car test 1987. Bike test 1993. Didn't have any theory test then - just the highway code questions at the end of the road test.

Well blow me down, haven't read the highway code for 30 years or done any theory or really made a conscious effort to learn anything new in this area. Only took a few seconds/ question. Is that it?
44 and 48 loads of time left.
Still don't understand what goes into Mod1/ 2, CBT and the other stuff is all about on tests nowadays.

When I passed mine all you did was ride round the block a couple of times and at some point the examiner would step out and you had to do an emergency stop. Couple of Highway Code questions and that was it.
It's an urban myth that there was some guy on his test and he'd been doing laps for an hour and gave up and went back to the Test Centre...to discover his examiner had, by mistake, jumped out in front of some poor sod on his bike who was on his way to work and been mown down.
Good story anyway.

46 & 47 Did my theory in 2009.
I have an issue with one of the questions:
A motorcyclist has had an accident and is not breathing normally, chest compressions should be give at: 50, 100 etc. etc.
It doesn't say anything about circulation?
It doesn't say anything about circulation?
No mate, traffic wardens are there to help with poor circulation, cos they discourage blockages.

Quite right.Well spotted.:D
Biker may not be breathing normally because of several cracked ribs. You wont get much thanks for doing cpr on that:(

Yes but if he's breathing normally or abnormally, then you don't do CPR, its only when he's not breathing do you launch into cPR

I think it's pretty obvious the question was asking how many compressions to do per minute.

It wants to know what hand signal you give to indicate you're stopping, as you would anywhere else while stopping. It's a tricky question, though.

Can you imagine trying to do 200/minute? You'd have a heart attack attempting it

on the long way round in episode 1, the medic who's doing first aid with ewan and charley says 20 compressions to 2 breaths in the amount of time it takes to recite nelly the elephant (around 10-12 seconds?)
I really fancy doing FBOS (first bike on scene) training course but it's another one of those things on the list of "Things I'd like to do one day"
