arf'noon.
building a sv650 streetfighter... see attatched photos.
was wondering on a tail unit for it, i want something that doesnt stick out too far, nor too expensive so RSV4, ZX6R, ruled out...
anyone any ideas? only for some opinions
more than likely just going to use to use the svxr unit from twinshack but some ideas are welcome

Virtually any tail will fit as long as you build your subframe.
The only other problem that I had with using street bike bodywork was making the seat fit. Race bodywork might be easier, then buy the sticky seat foam.
I did think about using Gixxer K8ish rear end until the Daytona 675 Sub frame came up, cheapish

yeah the fitments not a problem, that can be sorted. for some reason i always sway gixxer, and it kept coming back to my head so i just wanted some more ideas.
i think i would prefer to go for a race unit and use the foamy stuff, just cut the holes nicely for some lights to go in.
how did the fitting for the daytona subframe go?

it is the original, but ima wait until i ride it and find out how it is before i do change it, in the meantime ill get something lined up incase, but until i know and have ridden it im not gonna bother with it..... YET!
but if i do itll be the popular ZX6 or have a chat with Hagon, long way down the line though

RSV Millie tail unit would look nice.

How about something totally standout based around

Keep stock tail unit and buy a penske :)

OTOH, the K1 GSXR race tail we fitted to one looked alright.

i like your thinking, however, i want a kinda little back end, so the back wheel sticks out a little further than the end of the bike, if you get my thinking! :D
but i do like that... dont think iv ever seen a benelli in the flesh

The one I like... is the RSV4 tail section... May go a little better with a pointy SV...

Anything for the RSV4 is going to be pricey... But a SBK race tail may be priced within budget... :D Luis

PS: For my cheap project... It is going to go just above the rear spindle...

Fireblade race tail looks ace but isnt really short like you want. It's on the Steve Jordan race bikes I think

i like that little cowl, thats mega cheap too! might have a look for the superbike RSV4 unit, but i know as much as you can make panelling fit, it would be an absolute nightmare to fit something so tiny on a SV subframe! haha

trouble with all those modern tails is the NEED for a tail tidy, they just dont look right in road trim.

Theres a cheap 916 tail piece on ebay, although older styling than the more modern stuff being mentioned.

Take a look on SVrider.com for some inspiration. I have had a look at a few SVOTM's It should give some ideas :)

Hi, Im new to this forum having only just bought an 05 sv last weekend. Fairing and headlight damage but I want to build a retro style cafe racer anyway. Has anyone fitted the retro tail unit from Twinshack to a later model? - the one I like is only listed up to 02 and the guy's at Twinshack were not sure how much work would be involved. Thanks for any help with this.

perhaps consider putting a 99-02 subframe on your SV if you're making a project out of it anyway?

To be honest it barely fits the curvy. I had to take a saw to the tail unit and a grinder to the subframe. I've also had to pack it up at the front to stop it damaging the tank.

I'm sure you could make it work if you're determined. It might need a bit of cutting/welding to the subframe. You'd still need to do that to fit a curvy subframe anyway - they're not a straight swap.

Straight swaps are boring...

There is no challenge in being the first at doing something easy...

Thanks for the advice guys - hacksaw and a welder it is then. As the man said - no pain no gain. Ill post any learning obtained when I'm finished.

ill make whatever fit it, and yes, definitely the tail tidy is needed.
i've got a 916 tail unit but i just dont think the lines flow with that of the curvy, as well as the extremely flat underside that looks so bare without the exhausts, so i'd rather go for something that flows a bit more.
I do really like the svxr tail unit on twinshack, and would fit the kite shaped tail light from a late R6 to it. So far i think its one of the best looking tails and requires minimal work too, seems an all round winner.

A monster seat looks fab on a curvy. This (http://www.build-stuff.com/SV650.htm)is a seriously nice bike.

Yep, that's gorgeous! Looks like it bolts straight on, unlikely but if not he's done one hell of a job!

yeah that is smart, our huge bill board style number plates would ruin something like that though.

our huge number plates ruin just about anything that's designed to make the tail look better.
although, i've seen plenty of people with illegal number plates getting away with it, its not like the police are increasing their numbers ;)

so what tail unit did you go for in the end?

I've just dumped my SVS and have stripped it down ready to be street fightered but was a little unsure of getting a race seat as you will have no access to the electrics with out taking the whole thing apart?

and also I've like the look of the r6 tail but slightly to long do you reckon you could just cut it down a bit and slide it forward?
