Openreach man has installed infinity, and the speed is about 36mbit, pretty fast compared to my old broadband at 6mbit.
However, there is already a problem. Me and mr Openreach were messing about with it, and found in some instances its a bit too fast. For example we went to Iplayer and clicked on a HD programme, watched a few mins, then messed with youtube. In about 30 minutes we had eaten a Gb of my 40Gb monthly limit. It seems to be buffering at full bandwidth, for instance youtube clips buffered in just a second.
What I (think) I need is a 'traffic shaper', so I can slow down the link on my main lan connected windows 7 pc, leaving the wireless stuff alone.
Am I on the right track? I've come up with 'netlimiter' as a freeware program that might do the trick.

Slowing down isnt a real fix, if you watch a video on youtube that 100mb then it wont matter if it takes you 30seconds or 5 mins to download it, you have still downloaded the same amount

So your concern is that you are quickly going to eat your monthly allowance due to performance improvements.

1) get the right package
2) don't use it as much.

Your choice.

Well not in the case of the iplayer - was just having a look at the start, but it buffered (probably) the whole program, since the grey bar had run all the way across.

s'allright, netlimiter works a treat.
No need to upgrade package, and it wont download the whole youtube clip when someone embeds one in a thread and I just take a look at the first 10 seconds to see if it is interesting or not

Either buy a very, very long Ethernet cable or tie a knot in the one you have. That will slow the traffic between the router and the PC. Problem solved.
