View Full Version : New Winter Project
One of the lads at work was selling this, He's had it crated up for 4-5 years in the hanger next door to my workshops, I asked what was in the crate and he said it's my old NC30... I said.. a Honda ?
he said yeah, I said what are your plans, to which he said, Going to sell it. ~So we took it out and I bought it on the spot. got home and then told the wife... :0) She's still talking to me but wasn't impressed as I took the cash out at dinner time and she saw the statement online... thats when I started to get the text messages...! So I put my phone on the IGNOR mode..... Sorry lov the battery died :0)

Well done you, I very much approve! Nice bike too. ;-)

Bit parky for that Tim, unless its heated and insulated
Still completely baffles me why Honday aren't still making this (or the RVF)
Everyone gets misty eyed over them despite them being so old. You're missing a (very large and significant) trick Honda!.

Find a couple of quid down the sofa and you could have this one (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-RC30-BRAND-NEW-/150690022038?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2315d34296) as new.
"rappers on the frame" yo dig this bike :p
Nice .
I have an nc24 that has been sitting in my shed for the last 8 years since I bought my SV. I'll get that going again one day but alas I have a wife that moans about these things, she even went mental the other day when I told her my old man said he is going to give me his be'em GS when he (hopefully) gets himself a new bike in the new year :D.

Get used to it, when I got the SV I got a "good stiff ignoring to" for 4 weeks, but only 3 weeks for the GSXR and I still get grief about the VT500 I bought in 1991. I know these things will get me nagged at and she knows I take no notice. BTW still love each other.
thing's are afoot....!
more to come.... :0/
Got her Running now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_m_MW6sO64&feature=share) :0)
Bought some new carbs of fleebay and Dan & I fitted them today... With the aid of "StartU*******" she fired up.
Happy now... just the rear brakes to free off (no big job) then got to get her BFG-DeRegistered and DVLA Registered :0)
Happy now, Think I'll go for a few beers to celebrate :0)

Almost certainly not but then, by any objective measure, my Vauxhall Vectra is probably better than an E-Type Jag. ;)
... except Gorgeousness.
Andy, the Whole NS400/RVF400/RC30/RVF750 range were built with a build quality that will probably never be seen again. They simply oosed quality and "Specialness".
...and they are a bloody hoot to ride. I will definitely end up with a late RVF400 in spanking condition in my collection one day.

This
It's the same with most the 400's, 250/4's and the 250 strokers (Well except the fickleness of the late strokers)
I'd love to own a 400 as they are mad as a box of of and light
Got the rear caliper oil seals through, so since it's a little quiet at work today I've just stripped them down, Cleaned them up and fitted the new Seals :0)
Smooth sliding calipers now, and not seized like before.
So when I get home this weekend I'll refit them and bleed them through :0)
Then all I need to do is Re-register it over here and get UK plates, MOT and insure just intime for the Spring :0)
muzikill
27-01-12, 10:40 AM
What grease did you use in the caliper sliders? Ive noticed that the slider mech pushes out the air after a few mech movements making the movement a bit more tougher.
On the sv that is.
on the nc30 I used a product called neverseeze, its a Nickel based anti-seize compound, used it on the SV as well :0)
Very nearly Finished now, got called home early and fitted the caliper and bleed it up :0)

When can we have a play Richie??
I wanted a play today (away from police) but had to look after the missus :0(
Right went to go for a very little run.. just round the block sort of thing...
Naughty I know... but hay.
Anyhow, started bike and as per usual she started first time.. was just about to warm her up when missus rang... as she's not too well in bed :0( (GWS Mrs Richie...) so turned it off as a running bike in an open garage in this location attracts the unwelcome attentions of Thieving SCUMBAGS...
So turned it off locked up garage and went to see what Her Majesty wanted...
after 30 mins I went back got the bike out and put jacket, Helmet, Gloves on at went to start her up.
Nothing.. no sign of firing up, just the engine turning over :0(
Must have been an omen, as when I was all kitted up and she didn't start I heard a Cop car sirens....!
so just pushed it back into the garage and started to strip the fairing back off again to get to the plugs...
all plugs are completly soaked, even though I didn't use any throttle to start her up...
So back to reading up more on VFR400R's......
She sounds so sweet when shes running... Arr well will have to wait until tomorrow now, As Mr Alcohol is calling.... ;0)
end.
Sounds like too much choke Ritchie. My VF500 FII and VF 400 took about a 1/4 choke even on icy mornings. As soon as (s)he starts up, reduce the choke till its just running.
C
Finally put her back together, all 4 plugs needed cleaning up again.
Yes C. your correct, too much choke.
Went for a snagging run... last snag is the rear brake light switch is sticky... watching one on fleebay so that shouldn't be a problem.

When you sell it I want first refusal! :-)
...Seriously!
C
On the 03-02-12 I went to DVLA in Stockton, filled in a form and parted with £25 ref :-finding out the UK Registered number plate and to get her reregistered.
Today I get a letter from DVLA saying I need to trailer the bike to Darlington to a VOSA DVLA testing point on the 02/03/12... just to make sure it's the correct VIN number and it's UK road legal.
Well that's a step closer in the right direction then :0)
Is it left hand drive?
Still think its stunningly nice
Wish Her Luck for tomorrow...
DVLA Darlington here we come.

Its one of those things getting it v5'd and uk registered that you probably think is difficult but aint. I wouldnt mind knowing how much its cost so far after the cost of buying the bike to get to this stage. Well done so far.
total... from buying to getting to this stage......
4 x carb, 1 x airbox, 1 x sparkplug, 1 x air filter, De-Registering Germany / Re-Registering UK.....
TOTAL =

Getting her Taxed and insured Saturday, then Sunday going to the Lake District for a week of fun :0)
Great stuff :). I want one. Alot.
Is it as spotless as it looks on the photos?
no, there are one or two blemishes :0( but I always manage to find Her good side :0)
left hand top fairing has cracked (so I plastic welded it), front headlight fairing slight scuff, exhaust is missing its heat shield for the pillion, fuel tank has a very slight dint on the top, and red seat cover has a 1 inch tear. thats about it :0)
head stock needs a dusting with satin black :0)

Looks lovely, cannot wait to see it.
Well, She's now Fully Road Legal :0)
Got Tax and insurance today..... Just been for a quick ride... This time a full warm up and full speed test ride...
:0( Really bogging down at 8-10K rev range, and can hardly get past 12K in 4,5,6th....
So I think a total carb strip down and mod :)
So taking April (the Aprilia) over to the Lake District on Sunday for a few days of Hooning :0)
catch you all soon :0)

Good for you Richie. More power to the CV for when they finally kick you out. Then again the rates will go down because of a surplus of qualified drivers thanks to the army training all and sundry.

Hey Richie, i had a go on my mates one last week, its an f-reg, he's turned it into a RC30 replica, you can just make out the larger headlights he's grafted in for one. And he sprayed it up himself. Spent 100's of hours getting it this good.
After a 'test' ride feedback on it is mostly good, looks beautiful, absolutely zero power below 6k, then as the revs rise further, its like 'WHAM!' it just flies!!!! I didn't get a chance to try it on the twisties where they belong, but its sooo light and flickable, and definetely has that 'classic' ride feel.
The 'not so good' bit is the diabolical clip-on position/angle of them. 10mins and my wrists are killing!
He's thinking of selling this for £1500. I know it owes him £3500+.
