Following on from Carelesses (sp) wise decision to withdraw from the GM organisation.
Who feels brave enough to step up and take it on.
Couple of things.
As you'll have seen from previous years I wont allow the type of sniping or moaning that surrounds the organisation of the AR. I will continue with this and WILL delete, any moans, gripes, bitching or silliness.
Whoever is willing to step up and organise this needs our support, not second guessed or whinged at. Although its the GM, remember it does not need to be glencoe, we've not been aberdeenshire, Borders or Dumfries.
All we need is a campsite with onsite or local inexpensive fixed accommodation for those that dont camp, a pub is preferred but not essential as i'm sure we could organise a carry out. Anything else is optional, BBQ's breakfast, karaoke, nail bar, all nice but not necessary.
I would suggest whoever takes it on, selects their preferred location and date and announces this is the GM, its HERE, and its THEN, please come if you can.
Other than that there will be the usual T-shirts, routes etc and help will be required for this.
So come on then, step up, stick your head above the parapet and March on.
I would suggest whoever takes it on, selects their preferred location and date and announces this is the AR, its HERE, and its THEN, please come if you can.
Surely you mean GM... ;)
Good call... I'm not even sure I'll have the bike by the time of the GM next year, so I'm unable to step up and help organise. Will support in any way I can though.
Yes i did, good catch. KG

Dunno...whatever happens I'll try to come, hopefully make an even bigger adventure from it on the way up or down. Thoroughly enjoyed myself last year, my ass was sore but the grin on my face was hooooge :)
This time I'm coming with fresh tyres, had no idea how fast part worns could die, ESP in the wet on the way back! dukes pass was pretty faking scary lol.

Scotland is a huge tourist hot spot.
one of the largest problems that face us when organising the GM is location and availability. one of my main locations i had in mind is booked out till 2014.
if we want prime locations with the facility's then we are going to have to start looking at organising these events years in advance. so until the time where we start making a commitment towards the GM's organisation then i'm afraid that we are just going to have to put up with the dregs of accommodation that are available.
as i said i have a few locations in mind but whether they are booked out or not is another matter all together.
Kilted Ginger
09-12-11, 07:16 PM
Like i tried to say earlier but probably didnt. There can be a desire or pressure to over organise these things.
Route, field, pub(optional) anything else is a bonus. If someone is unwilling to come because the accomodation doesnt meet their standards then its up to them to find suitable accomodation in the area. A list of options may be provided but not necessarily.
The last rally i went to was a grass field next to a social hall, one public toilet and a nearby river. it was great.

Keeping an eye in here.
Bib what area of Scotland you thinking of basing from if you did it?
one is in Glencoe and the other is near Blairgowrie. it could even be a repeat of last year but a different ride out.
if anyone has anywhere in mind then by all means step forward.

Invade Haddington to the South?
JamesMio

I'd be up for chucking together something further South - the only snag(s) for rideouts around here are:
a) The so-called stigma of it 'not being in the highlands and therefore doesn't really count' nonsense, &
b) If folks DO want to go further afield, there's that horrible skittery grey hours ride through the motorways of the central belt (pretty much unavoidable).
c) The roads here are very, very good - but the ones further north are better.

Highlighted the most pertinent word for you there James. The first one was called the Glencoe Massacre. Nobody ever said subsequent years had to go through Glencoe.

See, I know this, you know this, as do several others...
After just spending 10 mins looking at Google Maps, I'll commit as far as saying I'm tempted - leave it with me.
(PS - consider this the same as Bib's 'I'm in no way committing to actually doing this yet!)

I'm willing to help if I can. I'm a little busy end of April start of May (and first week in June) but I'm willing to do what I can to help.
Right - If you guys fancy coming down to D&G for thr GM V this year i have been and spoke to Galloway Activity Centre on the banks of Loch Ken.
http://www.lochken.co.uk/accommodation
They would be more than happy to have us. They have accomodation for up to 56 beds and as much camping as we need. There is a cafe for breakfasts and will open in the evening for meals (last service around 7.00 tho'). The main block is open all evening for toilet/showering facilities. The cafe area is open all night to be used by all as a social area. There is no bar on site or license for the premises, but we are welcome to bring our own.:smt030
http://www.lochken.co.uk/waterfront-cafe
Rates
- Lodge / Bunkhouse, has own kitchen, social area, toilets and showers - sleeps upto 20 is £16.50 pppn
- Big Cabin - sleeps 6 also £16.50 pppn
- Small Cabin - sleeps 2 - 4 of these available - £16.50 pppn
- 3 Yurts - sleeps upto 6 but i would think 4/5 would be more comfortable. These are £150 for the 2 nights (£15 pppn if 5 share)
- Tipee - sleeps 4 - £110 for the 2 nights (£15 pppn)
- Camping - £7.50 pppn
If this is a go'er will need to know asap (decide on a date) and get the fixed accomodation booked. Might seem early for some but these places will start to fill up in january (when all the holiday adverts start).
As for the rideout - i am sure between myself, jamesmio & carless we can sort something? We have lots of good quiet roads all the way from Port patrick all the way across to the borders.
This is just a suggestion and i will not be offended if somebody else has a better idea or has plans already in place:thumbsup:
Sounds like a winner SIII. IIRC this was the site that Chucca was looking at.
It would be a nice change of scenery for the GM IMO. As you say plenty of decent roads round there and the southern location might encourage a few more English org'ers to come up and sample the delights of Scotland.
I should be able to help out with rideouts if you want to make sure they're still suitable for the slow and talentless. :D
If no-one else comes forward, and your willing to do it, then I'd say crack on. Wearing your thickest skin and not putting anything to the vote seems to be the way forward with these things. ;)

loads of really good stuff
There's some great roads over the Galloway forest too, one's that despite 5 years of having a bike and living 100 miles away I never got round to doing on the bike. It was always too tempting to go North instead. Done all those roads plenty times in the car for work though.
I'll bet it's an area even a lot of Scots have never explored.
Up past Loch Doon, back over the A70 to Biggar, down to Moffat, up to Tibbie Shields, over the tiny wee road through Kirkhouse Forest (very picturesque, and mysterious with the river running besides it. Mind the sheep!) to Innerleithen, up to Peebles, back to Biggar, and drop back down the A702 to the campsite via Thornhill.
There is a full day EPIC rideout right there, and I haven't even had to think about it, just a quick glance at Google maps to come up with that. Properly route planned there's great rideout potential.
It's at least full two hours closer than previous GM's for folk coming up from England. I know I wanted to go to the East one year, but the South is looking just as attractive IMO! Just tell me when (no polls please  just don't make it the last weekend in April) and I'll be there.

I did look at going here the licence thing was a major concern for me, but if they'll let us drink our own stuff till silly hours then why not... Fuel was another worry the there's a tiny little place in Dalry or down to Castle Douglas. where there's a big TESCO for booze. It had been my intention to go down and visit them with Lance but the weather was awful so we never made it for a gab with them...
I'd thought about us starting the run in the morning with this loop taking us back to GAC for lunch, stop in Grivan for a break and fuel or even Dalmellington as the garage there has a huge area out the back;
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=galloway+activity+centre&daddr=Newton+Stewart+to:barrhill+to:Girvan+to:Dalm ellington+to:galloway+activity+centre&hl=en&sll=55.117695,-4.572515&sspn=0.816798,1.760559&geocode=FfPMRwMdLm3B_yFCL_iYECAOoA%3BFaugRgMdpJe7_ ymFa4PMUBViSDFNRB58TUTmJQ%3BFZnHSAMdiUy3_ynbSSKtdW liSDEM9AcFLItR8w%3BFeTlSgMdNu61_ykzllPWDRNiSDGrD5l mmBQ_0g%3BFSUtTAMdlN68_ykj4tMHNYFiSDGDv2dzKxzdxQ%3 BFfPMRwMdLm3B_yFCL_iYECAOoA&vpsrc=0&mra=ls&t=m&z=10
Afternoon was something along these lines but stops might be more difficult, I also know that we are using the bit between Dalry and Carsphairn twice but hey ho its a good bit of road;

As for dates anything after AR would do me, I'm back from all the wedding nonsense.
I'll butt out now as I'm not organising, I'm just getting excited already... :smt026
If i were to run this, I suggest a Date of Friday the 6th of July - Sunday 8th of July. I break up for 6 weeks on the 4th so I can be around to sort out final details, meet n greet folk on the friday. Sorry no vote, i will be busy uptil then and then going away for 2-3 weeks after. Also Armoy road race is on the 28th July.
if there is major objections to the time and place speak now or forever hold yer piece! Or anybody else's close at hand!:smt009
I would really appreciate help on this, setting up various threads to arrange who's stopping where and all the other stuff I haven't thought of!
As for a thick skin, in my proffesion I spend every day not givin a toss what other think of me or say (pupils & staff):-s
I will organise anything needed on the ground up here and will gladly accept and probably need, help and assistance. If I do miss out something just PM and we can sort it out together, please don't bitch behind my back and wait for me to fail. i hopefully have never upset anyone on here and if I have let me know.
Aye, we can sort a route out later? Fuel and Booze is avaiable in CD (Castle Douglas),fuel @ Dalry (he's a robbin git!) and an off license at Crossmichael. Just suggest bikes filled up before arriving on Friday afternoon?
The only speed cops are on the A75 (so be careful travelling to site), mobile camera vans, marked cars and unmarked cars (will pass on details of these later), no marked or unmarked bikes in D&G!:smt041

Zis est not exxxacccccerly true.
Whilst D&G no longer have bikes, Strathclyde cover our area on their bikes. They were down in the area a few times in the summer months. And the traffic do not just stick on the A75 and never have done. Everyone would defo still need to be sensible (not that I think you lot wouldn't be).

I'm more than happy to help or assist any way I can so just ask/shout. I'm also on very good terms with the Buccleuch in Moffat who/where I'd had in mind for lunch stop (loads of bike friendly eateries in Moffat).
All just suggestions, if you're taking this on then it's very much your gig - I'll help as much or little as you like and no offence shall be taken along the way!

Friday the 6th of July - Sunday 8th of July.
Suits me boss!
"The only speed cops are on the A75"
I know this is a bit of a generalisation, but 95+% of the time this is true. Never seen marked or unmarked cars doing speed duties off of the A75, haven't seen a marked bike all last year and occasionally see mobile van camera's on A711 or in Parton on side of Loch Ken but generally these are on the A75.

I did read that.
The only reason I'm asking is because for the previous GM's I thought we polled dates?
Hi Andy, If you lok at the start of the thread it was suggested that any fool wishing to take on the job, should just say where and when and get on with it. Thats what I have done. This is still provisional so now is the chance to say yeah or nae! I am busy around then and also the AR and BSB Knockhill, Armoy Road race are in June / july, this therefore is the best weekend for me (Even tho' its the wife's birthday on the sunday). Hope that answers your question.
Have spoke to campsite this morning and they are happy to have us the weekend of 6th-8th of July. They have no other bookings for that weekend at the moment.
This is still a provisional time and place! So far comments have been positive, so can we have more - either in the positive or the negative.

Depends on hundreds of things. Might not have the bike by then (buying a house) and it's a bit tricky for me to get leave for the summer months this year due to specialisms I have at work.

Sorry, just my expierence with cops on traffic has always been unpleasent (not just in D&G), even when I was in need of help and needed them not to not be twits!
I totally disagree with the use of unmarked cars, which seems to becoming a very popular in D&G, driven by a pair of flash gits in black polo shirts with wee polis logo's and black BMW and big alloys, hiding in laybys after flashing at me and then trying to catch folowing bikers out. They didn't! Setting up their camera van on A75 following the Newton Stewart Bike show ! Nice!
