Hi all, hope someone out there could shed some light for me.

I've searched quite a bit and can't find an answer, so if this has been covered before, my apologies, also if this is a silly question.

I've got some hot grips to fit to my SK6 and I'm not sure about fixing the live connection. I've seen the step by step guide: http://www.sv650.org/docs/FittingHotGrips.pdf (http://www.sv650.org/docs/FittingHotGrips.pdf)

I'm happy that the empty slots either side of the orange wire are switched live, but I'm wondering if the only way to connect the live wire is to solder it. Is there another location where it could be bolted? Is it possible to remove the metal framework from inside the fuse box to facilitate the connection?

If I was to connect direct to the battery and disconnect either the DIN or 'Tamiya' styled connector would this eliminate potential battery drain?

Or should I just follow the guide?

Ta muchly

This is pretty much what I followed, however, I traced the route of the orange wire and decided to splice into the loom near the feed exists by the yolks. I also installed a single pole double throw relay and a fuse to prevent battery drain in case i forget to turn the grips off. This has worked for me and have been running with the grips for over a year with no problems.
However, the orange wire also goes into the left hand control unit. It's soldered to a pin there, and you can solder your wires to it for a neater finish.
Hope that helps.

The orange wire is a switched live if I remember right, which means it is not live when the ignition is turned off... or was that on Kawasakis, I can't remember?

My memory is also like yours Orange is switched live.

I took initially broke it with an alarm powered relay to act as an isolator. then when I realised alarms were such a pain in the **** reconnected it. using the switched feed to power the relay for auxiliary power.
