As much as I'd love for it to be a new bike it's not. But I have brought a new (to me) car for project trackdays planned for next year. I had no intention of buying a car this year but this come up and I knew it wouldn't hang around for long.
The pictures that were on eBay.

Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDi Top Of The Range Laurin & Klement with the biggest engine (130 bhp), 6 speed and all the mod cons. Really clean and tidy for a car that's done 99,000 miles. Just to buy a trailer and get the bike sorted for March and I'm ready for the track. :D

Skoda (VW) are a bit specific about what oil you can use in it, my neighbour says, which does make getting cheaper oil for it a problem, although my neighbour is a bit OCD about this kind of thing.
Apart from that, he uses some form of fuel additive which keeps one of the turbo sensors clean and stops a service light from coming on. Only applies if you do lots of short journeys. When he was doing Felixstowe to Newcastle it wasn't a problem. But since he doesn't do these journeys any more, its become an irritant
But that's normal in a lot of modern diesels

This has been to a main dealer most of it's life then went to a Bosch garage after that. Once I get everything sorted for the trackday I'll be booking it in for a service at a main dealer just to have piece of mind if nothing else.
It's relatively cheap to tax Octavia's. My dad has the new shape one and costs £30 for a year! My car above is only £130 and the engine size down from mine is £115. Other manufacturers with similar engine size is £160 a year! Also insurance on this car for me (22 year old, 2 yr NCB) is only £970 a year fully comp.
Not the kind of car you'd see a 22 year old in but that doesn't worry me. I've been driving a bright green Polo round for the last 15 months.

Common sense hit me. I don't enjoy going for a 'bimble' on the roads now that I have a driving job. So I'm going to do it in a place where it's fine to speed and knee down in the bends. Depending on how it goes I might buy a dedicated bike for it.

A mate at work swears this is the best car in the world and moans about selling his almost every time he sees any other car that reminds him of it.
Unfortunately it too was silver & if someone is in ear shot when he sees a silver car/a Skoda and the odd occasion when someone decides to wind him up, we get the 'I wish I hadn't flogged my Octavia' story (a bit like Pavlovs dogs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_Pavlov)).
Enjoy, looks nice, just hope you don't suffer from the same side effects as my mate if you ever decide to sell it.

You shouldn't regret that purchase, until you have to drive a date home and she sees that centre console and pukes in the passenger footwell. At least with the Polo she would puke before she got in! ;-)
I use a fully synthetic VW505 specification oil in the Seat that I get from a local motor factor, and it costs about £23 quid for a 4 litre tub. A lot cheaper than Castrol, etc. I'll post the brand when I've been out to the garage tomorrow.

I'm assuming the car is to tow a track bike to the trackdays? You've not bought a diesel Skoda to use on trackdays....
...have you?

How much did it cost to buy, when I was buying a car the estate versions of these were quite a lot of money. 960 for insurance, holy hell that a lot of cash!

Great choice, from the pics it's well looked after.
The great thing about Skoda's is the younger generation don't own them because they don't have the 'cool factor' to them. They are mainly owned by middle to elderly aged drivers who tend to look after their cars more.
There is a couple of marks on the wheels and 2 small 'dinks'. For a car of it's age and mileage I would consider that to be pretty good.
You shouldn't regret that purchase, until you have to drive a date home and she sees that centre console and pukes in the passenger footwell. At least with the Polo she would puke before she got in!
The wood effect is from the Bentley side of the group so women will love it. ;) All the rest is SEAT, Audi and VW with a couple of Skoda badges. But you are so right regarding the VW.

...Now there's an idea, thanks for that ingenious idea Ralph. ;) But no, it's going to be pulling the bike to the track.

It cost £3,295. I take it your not under 25 years of age with that last comment? Anything under 4 figures for something with a bit of power is regarded as cheap now.
By the way here is a link to the eBay seller: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/27ha/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686
I was going to get the Silverline Ltd Edition until this car come up. I still had a look round the Silverline and that's also a tidy motor. Really nice bloke to do business with and couldn't be more open with information.

Every 6th trackday in the Skoda should do it. ;)

Nah a bit older I think...
Seggons has had a very peculiar life. For the first quarter of his life, he owned no cars at all. After that, he only owned one car at a time.
After the first quarter, he owned only a Ford Escort for ten years. He got tired of that so he switched to only owning A VW Golf for nine years. Next, for the past eight years, he's only been riding bikes. How old is he?

Thanks alot for the link and it's something I'll look at doing in the future sometime. But I'm going to be going from a 50 bhp VW Polo to a 130 bhp Skoda which should be enough of a jump. :D

Oh, I feel 55 some days, I ride a Triumph too! Still at least it's a sports bike.
Sometimes feel even older and grumpier than that Specialone bloke... you know, the one that rides the old man's sports tourer? We are going camping in France in April, I'm sure he's going to take his slippers in his top box.
Anyway, you take care in that powerful car now Kiddo! No showing off with your friends in the back!
PS: Not going to comment on Mavizcap's age, that would just be cruel.
PPS: PunyXpress been coffin dodging it for years...

Yup. The 6CD Muti Changer is in the boot. It will be something to upgrade in the future. :)

To be honest buying the car wasn't purely for project trackdays. I generally needed a decent car and I know this will last me 5+ years. I have no real idea how how much it'll cost. I know it's not cheap but as long as I don't fall off (famous last words) then it shouldn't get too out of control money wise.

Hmmm, you've given me an idea for a tow bar cover when not in use. ;)
Good cars Skodas. My brother has the newer shape Vrs petrol, and my boss the Vrs diesel estate (170bhp).
I've used the boss's car for a day and was impressed, although his is the DSG and I hate automatics.
Tried convincing a friends son to get a Fabia Vrs (same engine as yours) and went co-pilot with him on a test drive. Must say I was impressed, pulled really well (and I drive an Impreza WRX).
Think the oil that somone on this thread is trying to recall the name of is Quantum Silver. VW engines like that stuff.

Best of luck with that one, Scott. ;)
