View Full Version : Pointy owners show me your rear LED indicators please
I am undertaking a little proect at the moment to upgrade all the lights to LED. Got some smoked front flush fairing indicators, flasher relay & a rear tail tidy. I am still deliberating on what rear indicators to go for and was hoping people could post pictures of ones they have upgraded to so I can take a look. Browsing eBay I am torn between the more standard looking oxford triangle ones or something a little different like these:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUZUKI-GS500F-SV650-2X-LED-TURN-SIGNAL-LIGHT-INDICATOR-/110793336342?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19cbcc2616
I was thinking the above ones would look quite cool being strip lights like the twin LED bake lights.
Give me oppinions or insperation with yuor pics please people!
Also I want to replace the rear numberplate light with an LED. Does anyone know what the bulb type is without me having to go out in the cold and take it apart?
Cheers,
Sy.

The number plate light is the same as the side lights (5W wedge), I have a muli-led light here that gives a good spread of light but also put some foil in the back to act as a reflector (v. cheap Ebay Leds are not really worth it as lumens are so low!). High quality Japanese LEDs everywhere else to match lumens to standard bulbs.
I like the strip ones in the Ebay link above but have gone for LEDs in the standard indicators as I have a standard (non-tail tidy) rear.

I have Oxford ones and frankly found them a little disappointing, they are not that bright and not waterproof. I also have flush fit fairing LED indicators which are bright and water proof (despite being Chinese made and cheap), however front visibility is compromised by fitting them because they are are only really good from the side. To make up for this I have a another set of front facing fitting into the air ducts on the front fairing. Six indicators in total and it looks great. Just wish I had not chosen the Oxford ones, the cheap Chinese ones are better!
Cheers for the feedback, I am not too sold on the Oxford ones either (from wha I have seen so far) Do you have any pics? I am keen to judge them esthetically.

Mine are the blocky ones, also they stick into my panniers so are hardly visible when carrying luggage, which is another down mark for me.

Do you have pictures of the front facing ones? Sound interesting.

Not greatly detailed ones I am afraid, but will give you a pic that shows them a bit.

Yeah was going to say, no one's looking at the indicators just the three bird pyramid.
Unless you are prepared to spend some serious money on proper LED indicators, I would stick to bulbs, maybe the orange kind with clear lenses. Most carp LED on the marker are virtually invisible on a sunny day and tend to fail quicker (despite some claims) than incandescent bulbs.

Mine have done at least two years, and I've asked people I ride with to make sure they can see them fine on quite a few occasions. They were yorkshireman money.

Just really don't bother with cheap Halfords bulb indicators, they look nice, small and well made until you open the packet. I fitted some last year and they lasted nine months. When one stopped working I thought that the bulb had blown, but it turned out that the bulb holder had rusted to nothing. Opening the unit caused the lense tabs to snap off and I had to fit a new one. That lasted another few months but the reflector rusted out. Total spent was thirty pounds, which could have bought me a nice set that lasted. Oh well, live and learn.

Yeah I wouldn't buy halfords tat!
That is a sexy rear end you have there Dave20046!
I have the HG led ones. They are definately bright enough and the good thing is they also shine to the side.
Here are a couple of pics to show the style. Unfortunately the pic of the rears isnt too good but I have included a close up of one at the front to show the style a bit clearer.

I bought some of the Powerbronze ones from the bike show at the NEC after seeing them on their stand. Looked good so I got the rear ones and the flush fit for the front.
Hopefully have them put on over Christmas, just waiting for new number plate, undertray and connector lead so I can sort it all out.
I like the extra visibility of those ones FG1. Who makes them?

HG = Hein Gericke
Well I ordered the connector leads off ebay someone mentioned, and they are incorrect :(
Did Suzuki change them at any point?
This is the difference I found, the one on the left is the original, the other is the connector from the lead on ebay

I had a problem when I bought my connectors. I have a naked and the front are different to the rear. If I remember, the round ones are in the front on mine.

Yup the square ones are the rear. Round for the front

Seems to be a common problem, I've ordered stock replacements for indicators that I've "crash tested" ordered a front and got one with a rear connector, ordered a rear one got a front connector. Clearly there is some sort of mix up going on with 3rd party manufacturers/distributers
