I've been keeping an eye out for one (in passing though, not too seriously) for the past 5 years...good luck!

Airsnark
16-12-11, 04:54 PM
haha there was a few on ebay a few weeks ago, really ****ed off that i missed em :/

Dave20046
16-12-11, 04:57 PM
I'd seen the odd one crop up on ebay - but they've always been miles away or knackered, can't say I've searched ebay for one in the last 3 years though just kept an eye out for one in the flesh.

Is it for your first bike or something...or just curiosity?

Airsnark
16-12-11, 05:07 PM
If i find a knackered one i wont bother with it but if its far away im willing to somehow get it to me.
But no it isnt my first bike, my first bike was a ybr125 and currently i have a k3 sv650s (not currently riding because i broke my collar bone playing rugby :/ ) but i would rather a goose tbh at my age it just seems like more sense as do many bikes but none are as awesome as the goose, plus i love corners and apparently the goose is one mean cornering beast.

Dave20046
16-12-11, 05:19 PM
I wanted one as my first bike but never succeeded but have always fancied seeing/having one..just curiosity really.
Can't say I ever looked into handling, they look like they'd handle like a lightweight bandit - not tooo dissimilar to the sv, have you thought about the sv400?

They are cool though, I think the magic's in the name to be honest.

Airsnark
16-12-11, 05:35 PM
Just looked at the sv400, personally dont see the advantage for that over the 650 other than maybe cheaper insurance? but it still would require restriction and it just isnt a goose, i dont know what it is about the goose i just love it

Dave20046
16-12-11, 05:38 PM
Ah yeah, forgot about restriction - yeah just less cc's, good power/torque/handling and more available!

Airsnark
16-12-11, 05:43 PM
I would rather stick with my 650 until i can find a goose tbh

Dave20046

So would I, goodluck.

are they much different from a 400 bandit? see theyre only single front disc like uk spec 400 bandits

Airsnark
16-12-11, 09:29 PM
they are completely different :P

they look like a road going version of a dr350

BBadger
17-12-11, 11:18 AM
was going to say the engine looks identical to my dr350.
Seen one or two about at uni and they look like a nice bike.

Airsnark
17-12-11, 12:40 PM
the engine is the dr350 engine i think and if not it is a tuned version

Have you tried the thumperclub? (www.thumperclub.com)

and I guess you already know about www.suzukigoose.co.uk

Airsnark
17-12-11, 03:04 PM
i know about the goose website but i am trying thumperclub now

BBadger

if not too tune a dr350 engine is simple and the gains huge from very little. also so much fun!

you're right it is, makes about 30 odd bhp, you might want to keep an eye out for the Goose 250, lighter still and make around the 27bhp, so no great loss of power either, I actually prefer the 250 myself, Bat motorcycles used to import a fair few of these, but once the Japanese market changed their rules the bottom fell out of that market and I believe Bat's went out of business early last years.

You might like to consider the Yamaha srx (both 400 & 600)

http://www.bikerglory.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/srx600b.jpg

which does the same kind of thing, small light skinny, good fun bikes, but again getting a bit old these days so finding a good one is difficult, or indeed if you want something a bit more modern then look at the update the SZR 660

Cheers Mark.

Airsnark
19-12-11, 05:10 PM
Wow thankyou very much for that post, the srx looks nice, do you know what its bhp output is for the 400? because one of the best things about the goose is that its under 33bhp so doesnt require restriction on my licence.

rictus01
19-12-11, 05:12 PM
you'd have to check, but I believe it falls below that, and they were far more popular than the goose, so in theory you should be able to find one easier.

Cheers Mark.

Airsnark
19-12-11, 05:17 PM
according to a website it has a maximum bhp of 33 so thats all good, although all things considered i still prefer the goose. I will keep an eye out for both now.

cheers

rictus01
19-12-11, 05:20 PM
do remember that would have been new, I doubt any example you find will make that full amount these days, Oh and the 400 srx was only kickstart, so get training.......:)

Cheers Mark.

19-12-11, 05:28 PM
AFAIK,,,,recalling theres been about four SRX600s in the house, they kick out 33.

......as for kick.......find a nice step ladder and jump...theres a knack, which is why i ended up with Suzy, as the ex bought me one, and i couldn't start it!!!

They do however come in an electric start, for those that don't have a massive set of leg muscles ;)

Airsnark
19-12-11, 05:34 PM
apparently to wikipedia(however accurate that is) the srx600 gives out 40bhp

dizzyblonde
19-12-11, 06:18 PM
ahhh well, never mind then. ignore that ;)

saying that, most of em are so old, they can't make 40bhp anyway. Nippy little burgers though

What a lovely wee thing. It still looks really trick. If any bike needed an engine transplant it was that one though!
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/stramasher/Suzuki20Goose203502092.jpg

Seeing at is now a thumper free-for-all, here is my fave: mk2 grey import SRX600. Gorgeous:

http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g87/stramasher/3SX1.jpg

Also have a look at XBR500 Honda, UK bike and plenty fast if you know what you are doing on the right roads. Newer grey import Clubman version is tasty too.

rictus01
20-12-11, 08:26 AM
if I remember right the honda put out around 45bhp and fairly lazy at that, nice old cafe racer style look to them though in the burgundy , the OP was looking for something in the 33bhp range to save restricting it.

another suggestion might be the Bros 400 sub 34bhp (30-31 I think), same era as the goose, srx, but a lovely little v twin as well, I had the product one, which is the 650, but the product two (400) was a very accomplished bike as demonstrated by the amount used on the courier circuit.

Ooh. Just like mine.

Apart from being 400cc, no cargo-net holding the back plastic together, no gaffa taped back light, intact hero-blobs, unscrapped centre stand and exhaust........ and no dead CDI. :(

Missed you were 33bhp'd. Another silly one is Yamaha SDR200. Ahh, the golden Grey years.

AHhh thanks to this thread & Rictus for a bit of a trip down memory lane!

I used to have an SRX400 (the later electric start version with a monoshock) and loved it to bits. They are very slim and nimble, but a bit short on power (33bhp) and the brakes were designed in the late 80s so not a patch on today's bikes. Wouldn't mind having a go on one again though :)

And I wanted an SZR660 in red & black, but was a poor student so didn't have enough money...

Don't know of any Goose's for sale - I only ever saw them at Bat Motorcycles several years ago, though I did take test ride on one and the seat was stiff as a board! If you want one you might want to invest in a cushion ;-)

Just an update, I found myself a goose and jumped on the opportunity to get one. I love it :D has plenty of power and handles like a boss, love it! I have many plans on upgrading it with little added extras. If you ever get the opportunity to get one, get one, you wont regret it :D.

very nice.
looking a little slow on the revs dropping though, these engines are really choked up.

not sure if the goose has one but google for a weld in the header that needs grinding away, better breathing airbox and a small upjet to match and it will sing!!

Airsnark
06-02-12, 05:06 PM
interesting, will take note of that :D

how would i go about getting a better breathing airbox or a new one? as the goose isnt exactly common. or is there a way to mod the current one to allow it to breathe better? cheers

BBadger
09-02-12, 03:51 PM
im not entirely sure what the airbox is like on the goose and i know the dr runs a 33mm where as the goose runs a 40 i think.
So a pic may help with this one.

otherwise ive seen cone filters on them, and heard about de snorkling and increasing the size of the hole to make it breath better.

Airsnark
09-02-12, 03:54 PM
ok will take a few pics when i next take the tank off

BBadger
09-02-12, 04:03 PM
also find out what carb it is as an extended fuel mixture screw makes life so much easier for setting up a good idle.
Then again i crack out the colour tune for the dr but i like being picky.

Airsnark
09-02-12, 04:07 PM
haha i have an idle speed adjuster twisty thing, is that the same thing as what you were refering to or are you refering to something u can adjust the air/fuel mixture with? plus i just installed a new iridium spark plug... not that changes much but it defo helps lol

BBadger
09-02-12, 04:58 PM
will help with the starting no end as will a valve adjustment.

yup air fuel mixture...its hidden under the carb in a recess so if you want to adjust it good luck without taking the thing apart, i see it as an investment.

Airsnark
09-02-12, 09:08 PM
from what iv been told the goose is running a bit rich, so i might have to look into finding that thing under the carb :P

Airsnark
10-02-12, 10:24 PM
Back to the cone air filter, my friend says that just having a cone filter on the carb could let water in, is this true or is it so negligible it doesnt matter?

BBadger
11-02-12, 05:28 PM
well if its hammering it down and your buggering through big puddles then there's bound to be some water getting at it but for all other riding i couldnt see there being an issue. would just have to work out what jet size...somewhere around a 160 i think to match it.

all this is making me want to get home and rip my 350 engine apart as its getting abit of porting and what not over the summer.

That looks wicked, has it had a paint job? What sort of price region was it?

Airsnark
12-02-12, 09:32 PM
no paint job, i will do one on it, probs a dark metallic grey, it does have a few marks here and there which dont turn up in the pics, i picked it up for £900, i saw a few on sale for 450-600 range leading up to finding this one but they were all like 20k miles plus and not great condition, this one had 12k ish kilometers so 7.5k ish miles and there is nothing wrong with it so i was happy to pay £900 in the condition it is :D Iv got a list of upgrades i plan to do to make it my own :P
