"They also propose to ban filtering through traffic, which would be dangerous for air-cooled machines that could blow up in traffic"
Well researched lol

Done, anyone know what all the actual proposals are ?

Yes. None of them are accurately described in that petition.
If you want to sign a petition against fictitious legislation then crack on by all means.

I'm not sure it does. These petitions are put up by private individuals.
A great number of them are, like this one, utter misinformed tosh and are duly ignored by Government.

I was referring to the check the petitions go through, but I know what your meaning Tam
Ah I see, sorry. I think they just filter out swearing, racism and the like. Apart from that it seems to be anything goes.

Never going to happen. Poorly informed individual writing a petition.
Many reasons it won't ever happen, but one relevant to the current world climate is this...
The after market sector is huge all over the world. It supports many other sectors, such as shipping. It employs hundreds of thousands worldwide as an end to end market and it can boost trade in difficult times. No government would outlaw that.
In a perverse way I'd like to see how long manufacturers anti-tampering measures last against a motivated group of orgers. I give them 30 minutes tops. :)

I'd give the sheer bolts 3 minutes and the ECU 27
I think we've discussed it to death on a couple of previous occasions, but there is legislation slowly moving through the system: the title is the proposed EU Regulation on Type Approval and Market Surveillance of 2 and 3 wheelers, which has just passed a vote in the EU Commision internal markets committee (IMCO).
In the view of IMCO, as from 2016 motorcycles will have to become cleaner and manufacturers must fit ABS, even for light motorcycles. As from 2014, measures to prevent power-train modifications (which are still to be developed) must be applied and users shall present their bikes for inspection when carrying out "substantial" modifications. The text is a little ambiguous, so for the UK there may be little change from the current MoT for certain changes.
Yesterday's [5th Dec] vote can be seen as a reference and recommendation for the final vote of the European Parliament, which is expected to be held by the beginning of 2012, probably March.
It may be worth remembering at this point that the key countries in the EU aren't totally behind the capitalist system as we understand it, so the idea of letting the market decide what can sell and what can't by seeing what buyers want isn't how it works there. :help:
For me, it is going to be about saving a few pennies up and getting a bit of time off work booked, as the e-mail I was quoting from above did also suggest the possibility of a european demo. It may also be worth writing to your MEP, if you haven't done so already, and joining either of the riders rights groups for more detailed information.

I signed it because I feel that by being an irritation to the government, they are reminded that we exist and have views. It may not be the most well worded petition ever, but I would hate to bury my head in the sand and then be left feeling that I did nothing if laws I don't like get passed. As a supporter of MAG, I shall be watching these developments closely.

This is Europe remember. The bureaucrats there would'nt even understand your point even if they gave a **** about it.They rely on complacency among the likes of us to get their crap rules imposed,so well worded or not I signed it.

I can't disagree with much of that. However, in the case of this particular petition, I don't see any point in objecting to legislation on the grounds that you disagree with things that are not in it.
The proposals do not ban all modifications - nothing like it. They do not mention the banning of 7 year old vehicles in urban areas. They do not seek to ban filtering. Motorcycles will not explode if this legislation is passed.
There are areas of concern in the legislation, but there's also some good things in there too.
My hopes lay with MAG. But we have such a bad Nanny State I fear for my freedom and that of my family.
This country is being run by people who don't even visit the UK let alone live hear.
I would say that some of the worse excesses of the previous government are being relaxed somewhat, but as usual there is a need for eternal vigilance - any time you believe it will never happen, it is probably being thought of behind your back.
I suspect the petition is a bit of a crossover between the EU regulations which are being proposed, and some of the nastier items which are being attempted in France (and as far as I'm aware, are not on the radar on this side of the water).

Quite right.Just reminding them that we exist and are aware of them keeps them aware of us too."All that is needed for evil to persist is for good men to do nothing"as some clever bloke once said in slightly better language.;)

The highvis thing is a Ireland (Republic) and the French are on there own with the 7 Year rules. The French stance is due to them being told to drop the 100 bhp limit laws
The high-vis is on both sides of us, but slightly different in both cases - the Irish want full-arm coverage, while the French are OK with the vests.
The French road safety minister is on a personal crusade, however - probably angling for a European job down the road.
