Silk inner gloves & base layers

Anyone use silk inner gloves in winter?
Do you have bigger gloves to be able to fit the inner gloves in?
If yes, are they too big without the inner?
Anyone using base layers - any good ones out there?

Ive got some revit inner gloves, they work quite well in my supamoto leather gloves, thin so they fit.
You'll still get cold on the really cold days but temps we have now will be fine.

I'm using a combination of Lidl and Aldi base layers, bought some 2/3 years ago and still going strong. They're fine until it gets really cold and then I use the windproof Lidl base layers I bought last year on top of the normal ones. Nothing much gets through them!

i find that ski thermal base layers work well and are about a third the price of bike thermals.as to gloves i cant find gloves big enough to put inner/thermal gloves in but i use heated grips which work well

Silk inner gloves are very thin, they don't really affect the feel through my normal gloves and they definitely keep my hands warm. I've got a thermal top and trousers (from a ski shop - suzukigt380paul is right, they're much cheaper than bike ones and probably made by the same people) which I wore under jeans last winter and were pretty good, but this winter I've had Spada textiles with a liner which I wear over the top of jeans. Toasty warm! Upper body, I tend to find that the number of layers is more important than exactly what they are.

Have used silk inner gloves in the past with no problems under normal gloves as they're very thin. Work well too. If they get wet though on a ride don't put them on the radiator in the tea shop at your destination - yep, they'd melted by the time we went to leave on the return leg!

Have got some simple Dickies base layer items from Screwfix/Axminster (can't remember which now) which work very well. Was pretty sceptical but I use them year round now. Keep you warmer in cold weather and wick sweat away in the warm so your leatthers last longer before they stink!

From my experience working in outdoors retail and using a lot of gear, regarding baselayers, anything made out of merino wool is generally the warmest, it's thin and you can wear them for many days without having to wash them very often, they don't smell anywhere near as bad as a synthetic baselayer when used for a few days.

Merino wool doesn't itch, I have had one or two people tell me they find it itches but I think it is probably a seam or stitch that was causing the problem.

Although seemingly expensive, there are good enough reasons to justify buying it over other types.

For glove liners, I have never used silk, but from trying them on, they weigh hardly anything, are warm and very thin.
I have used Icebreaker liner gloves and they are great but I found that they wear quite quickly on the fingertips having had 3 pairs in 2/3 years.

The synthetic ones I've used are fairly good.

Ive got a set of BMW inner glove hand'mi'downs...they work perfectly! Combined with heated grips I haven't really felt the cold (on my hands) all winter! and as the above...they are really thin so dont effect your glove or feel or anything really apart from warmth!

I like my Underarmor turtleneck...its a bit posy but it keeps me nice and warm :)

As of earlier today, I can now highly recommend the M&S lightweight long sleeve thermal tops (Xmas present from MrsDJF). Was out for about an hour this morning and didn't feel the cold at all.

I got silk inner gloves for Christmas because I have admired hubby's so often, looking forward to using them with my heated grips. I use the new M&S 'heat generating' thermals, much warmer than previous ones even though they are really thin, so warm you would not believe it.

I use silk gloves under my Triumph Expedition gloves. I use those same Expedition gloves with and without the silk gloves - noticed no difference. So I would assume you dont need to have bigger size outer gloves if you are using silk gloves. My complaint is that the silk gloves get caught up a lot on the velcro of the outer gloves. Btw, big time fan of Triumph Expedition gloves.

ive got glove liners. the frank thomas anti freeze ones are quite good i think and dont take up too much space in your gloves.

theres a massive difference between thermals and base layers. And yes the BMW ones are good but have you seen the cost.

I use skiing (tog24) base layers all year round. there lightweight and keep me warm in cooler temps and cooler in summer. ive then got some m&s thermals for when it gets cold.
