No idea if this has been posted here already. If it has then I apologise, what are people's thoughts on this? Seems ridiculous!

I'm sure this was part of the big ride-out protest a few months back?

Yeah I am sure it was, but wasn't sure if people had seen the e-petition going around...

You want to sign up for something that contains pure lies?
They also propose to ban filtering through traffic, which would be dangerous for air-cooled machines that could blow up in traffic
Then they wonder why these petitions get ignored. (Well apart from the fact that the Government always knows best :p)
Oh and it also closed on the 10/11/2012 with just over 3,000 signatures.

Huh? Still got like 10 months left on the e-petition apparently...
does anyone know when the gov will actually be deciding if this goes through or not?

DOH - there goes my skim-reading ability :p

It's going through the motions in the EU Parliament at the moment. The UK Government is the wrong target at this stage.
Incidentally, there is almost nothing in the wording of that petition that is correct.

surely thats a joke about banning bikes over 7 years old from urban areas?
1. how do you get it home
2. what about cars that are over 7 years old too?

AFAIK there may be a pilot starting this year in a handful of French cities banning older vehicles in an attempt to improve air quality. It applies to all vehicles.
It's a local matter for the French if you ask me, and has absolutely nothing to do with the new EU motorcycle type approval legislation.
Some more accurate information on the current status of this legislation, and some of the real problems, here (http://www.fema-online.eu/index.php?mact=News,cntnt01,detail,0&cntnt01articleid=269&cntnt01returnid=15).
If you're concerned about it a constructive approach would be to support FEMA, rather than signing up to e-petitions that are just plain wrong.

It will be a developement of the London clean air zone.It doesnt ban older vehicles,it just makes them pay a couple of hundred pounds a day for driving inside the zone.Currently applies only to diesals over a certain weight(?two tons)but could easily be extended to all vehicles.

Yep, it's connected to that - all EU countries have got targets for air quality. Most have problems in their big cities and are looking at different ways of dealing with it.

Excuse me? Unless you're a big delivery vehicle, "a couple of hundred pounds a day" IS effectively a ban so I'd rather it didn't get extended to cover all older vehicles. Well, unless your wallet is considerably fatter than mine.

Yeah exactly.Im not defending it,just saying what they are likely to do.I support the idea of signing these petitions, even the ones that get a bit of a slagging on here because I think any registration of objection to these do gooding interfering desk jockies is a shot across the bows to them. They rely on apathy to chip away at what we do,so sign away :smt041
