Help
What to do. I cannot fit everything in my tool boxes and cupboards and the wife is nagging about clean ups.
It isn't totally my fault, My garage also contains a freezer, dryer and fridge(with my beer in). Together with a feck off great gas BBQ, grandkids bikes etc. Oh and my cross trainer.
How do I get more space and keep everyone happy?
Move? Divorce?

Shed/Lean to on the back of the garage for the BBQ - done properly you could use it as a shelter while using said BBQ.
I suspect the best place to relocate the cross-trainer would be eBay.

Gotta build a shed in my back garden too. I keep looking at that bbq, chairs, table etc. and asking them "wtf are you doing in here?!? I don't need you until the summer". Relegation to a shed makes sense to me. Go for that mate. :)

Why, I got some room when my engine lift moved into DavePreston's kitchen. I wouldn't want to move my toolboxes into the kitchen, too far to walk to get stuff when working in the garage.
To gain some temporary space I did move the dryer on top of the fridge. But it had to come down next time her indoors wanted to use it.

At the back of the garage I have a "gazebo" as in tiled roof/decked floor, 12ft*10ft. I keep thinking of building up walls and turning this into a shed. I could move cross trainer in there and the overflow freezer. But it is impractical for the dryer and beer fridge. (unless I then moved in a telly/armchair and myself). Now theres an idea.
We do have a garden shed. but that is full as it is tiny, contains lawn mowers, shelves of gardening stuff, spades/shovels, cushions for garden furniture. A bigger one would have been more use but more unsightly.

Easy. Good beer should be enjoyed at cellar temperature. Only crap beer needs to be really chilled. So drink better beer and you can get rid of the fridge. Accept that you're old and fat and throw out the cross trainer. If you do want to lose weight then get rid of the freezer, cos you don't need that much food around.
Sorted.

I need a garage full stop.
In answer to your question, divorce seems BIT DRASTIC. Just ask her to move out instead :)

Nah - move her into the garage & keep your stuff in the house.

I have a rule in my garage - if something is not bicycle/bike/tools/DIY-related it does not go in there. Household stuff stays in the house. When we extended four years ago I gave up five feet of the garage to extend the utility room - makes it cramped for me in the remaining space but what there is belongs to me! The shed is likewise garden/patio furniture/BBQ-only.
If things start to encroach on my space I move some of my stuff in to the kitchen until the message gets across*.
*This is of course a lie - I would not dare!!! I would however hide the offending item in the spare room when nobody was looking...

Hang on a minute , last time I was in that garage you could have swung a Giraffe in there ...

I've found when I make more space this space just gets filled too.
What you need is another org member who has a huge garage with very little in it. You can then ask for a set of keys and freely leave all your crap in there as dry storage.

Giraffe no problem. But getting a car in to do some work is.
I am seriously thinking of sneaking 10 ft onto the front of it. but that might upset next door as they cannot see light due to the 10ft high wall their side (only 4ft high my side) If I put a 8ft high garage wall they will get the impress of 14ft high wall at the side of them.

my Dads New place... ( lived there since we built it 23 years ago) has twin garages, the first is for the freezer and beer fridge +5 classic bikes. and the second is his workshop with a bike lift, Current bike restoration, metal turning lathe, bench grinder + polishing machine + all manor of tools....
Car always stay outside as they have their own roofs and doors.

Think of us without garages , a garage is not just for Christmas .... many garages lay neglected by their owners for years , often forgotten , rarely used . Give a garage it`s life back ..... FILL IT WITH BIKES .

More likely that Dave will be in the garage with his bikes, and the padlock closed...
