I have just bought my self my first ever pair of Roller Blades. I never had skates as a kid and I even fell off a skate board and nearly broke my jaw so gave up on that!
How the hell do you stand up on the B******s?! :?
Will I look like an utter Tuppence if I wear my Weiss textile armoured trousers? :smt112
All this because a good friend of mine wants to learn to skate before she is fifty and she has dragged me along because I am good at having hobbies! I think I am going to die, it has been nice knowing you all. :smt091

You are officially mad. And as for the trousers?? Look good or be mangled. Hmmm, tricky choice but I'd take the look like a pillock option. And probably wear the armoured jacket too!

Bought a pair for daughter at xmas, then bought myself a set from Sportsdirect. Did the same with a skateboard a few months ago. Love the blades, hate the board.
Nearly 42 and can still whizz around...Love it man!
:-)
Will post a pic of me wearing my bike gear and boots tomorrow, just for a laugh!

I tired that, bloomin stupid idea, sell them on e-bay now before you break any bones. All that I did was crash into things all the time The only way that I could use them was on carpet, it was the only way to slow them down enough.

Love the black eye and smile at the end there!
Brilliant!
Bambi on ice springs to mind...
Thankfully all the pics of me on the ice are the old fashioned variety and will not under any circumstances be scanned in. Curly perm and spangly shirt... not pretty

Rev you're my hero :D bet when you showed Carol she walked off to get the plasters out the first aid box shaking her head ;)
Skating is awesome! I used to have quads and blades and go out almost daily on them. Skateboarding never worked for me, but crouching down and shooting down the high street and weavin through people in town on skates was brilliant fun. Good times :)

So let me get this right Jayne, you're a rev who rides motor and mountain bikes and you're worried about a little pair of shoes with wheels on being responsible for your departure from this world? Cripes
Get on with it lass, it's great fun! I've only ever been rollerblading twice when I was a tad younger, took me half an hour to get used to it both times then after that I was flying about. Get some knee and elbow armour, oh and a helmet ;) and get blading! Hehe.
Would have posted My other half on Blades but she delleted to file before i could send it of to ITV.
Shes good on skates?

That pretty much sums it up, Managed to get a go in them today, just in the hallway and found it easier than walking on Crampons, but only just! :smt061

I think that my wifey hates me... Can you hear the giggling from there?

I was really proud of myself too given that this was the first time I have tried to skate in them. Do note the Motorbike clothing and armour. It still hurt... I need to learn how to brake! :smt115
You clearly have good balance if you've never done it before. My friend literally can't even stand up with them on...

Daughter dearest started going to the Friday night sessions at the local sports centre. Lady Poppy and I took it in turns to stand bored at the side for two hours until we noticed other parents having a go. I now have quad skates (old school - yay) and the girls both have blades. Interestingly all of the stewards (who help people stand up again basically) all have quads so I think I made the right choice...
Great way to keep fit. And once the munchkin got a bit older we started going to the later "teenager" sessions - much faster and not so many kamikazee 5 year olds who don't look before crossing your path. As with all things now she is almost 15 skating is not very cool any more so we've not been for ages. Boo! Was not fast and could never master going backwards, but enjoyed it a lot.
Personally I always wore wrist protectors. Not wanting a sprain or fracture in that area I put up with the odd looks. Considered the bike kit but daughter forebade it - something about us being embarassing enough already, as wo wobbled about like mobile chicanes...

Jayneflakes, that's the funniest thing I've seen all week! Brilliant, especially the "controlled" stop.
Still giggling....

Well, by the sound of it, you need to go back on your own. Who needs kids to be cool these days. Remember folks, for our kids to rebel against us, they will have to grow up and become Bank Managers! :D

Oh thanks! :smt099
I actually did better today, not only did I stand up, I managed to skate up and down with out looking like an utter pillock!

Still have my pair. Was fine going around the parking lots but when I tried to go down Queen St in Cardiff (before they repaved it) the slabs were all so uneven and shifting I nearly fell on my face a dozen times!
