Reject EU (Motorcycle) 'Anti-tampering' legislation, this included Art 18 & 52, that will prevent owners customising their bikes and/or using after market parts

Responsible department: Department for Transport

This will automatically become UK law soon and it means that bikers will not be able to customise their bikes in anyway or use cheaper (still safe & approved) 'after market' parts making it too expensive for the average rider – None of these directions make any sense at all and will not improve safety in anyway; just line the pockets of the large foreign bike manufactures. Bikers wil be singled out by the police and stopped and emissions checked; this is discriminatory. They also propose to ban filtering through traffic, which would be dangerous for air-cooled machines that could blow up in traffic and is the extreme of nanny state interference. Banning of motorcycles over 7yrs old in Urban areas. Clearly the EU intent to eradicate ALL motorcycles in the future and this is the thin end of the wedge...nanny state at its worst and it must be stopped right now! This EU legislation must be rejected by the UK government .

Is this some sort of urine extraction exercise? The petition must have been posted a dozen times now, and it's still no more correct than the first time, by which I mean not at all.

You can make it up to me by signing this one petitioning for the EU to sanction states introducing compulsory hi-vis, following the decisions in France and Ireland to make it mandatory from 2013 and 2014 respectively:

We the undersigned urge the British Government to put pressure on the European Commission to discipline any member state that imposes clothing standards on motorcycle riders. We view any such requirement as an expression of prejudice against motorcyclists and a barrier to the free movement of people within the EU. With regard to the current proposals on mandatory high visibility clothing being considered by some member states, we consider this to be ill advised and naïve. We challenge the speculation that high visibility clothing will reduce accidents involving motorcyclists. We question the right of motorists to hold driving licenses if they are incapable of seeing a rider and motorcycle unless clad in high visibility clothing. We challenge the logic that imposes unreasonable requirements on the victims of accidents in order to accommodate the failings of those who cause them.

I signed the first one a couple of weeks ago, so now I've signed yours too, orose.

Can I just point out that what the French actually have coming in is not hi-viz clothing at all. The ruling requires an area of reflective material 150 square centimetres. ie a 6 inch x 4 inch patch on your back or a big armband. In other words, utterly pointless. Even if there was conclusive proof that hi-viz worked (debatable, cue much arguing), if your 150sqcm patch is on your back, how does that make you more visible to the guy pulling out in front of you?

I'm going to stop typing now before this turns into an anti-EU rant and I start throwing things around the lounge.

I always thought that ad was a bit **** tbh. Those light sets just look very unstable. And make a lifesaver impossible.
