Hello all,
My 2000 SV650S kept blowing its ignition fuse last week - three times on start-up but once while sat running in neutral.
After looking the subject up on here, I spent yesterday taking the bike apart and checking the wiring. I don't have testing equipment but couldn't see any obvious signs of chafing or water ingress.
However, the clutch switch did seem dirty and wet. I also noticed that a stream of rainwater fall directly onto it when the mirrors are folded in (as they are during the day - to nip round the barriers at work) so I gave the switch and its housing a good flushing out with WD.
That seems to have sorted it - started the bike several times and left it running with no probs so far. But could a malfunctioning clutch switch have been the cause? Yes it's part of the ignition circuit and yes, I've had to spray it with WD before when it wasn't registering the clutch being pulled in and preventing me starting, but surely all a short in the switch would do is emulate the clutch being in?
Would appreciate any thoughts!
Chris.
PS think the battery's OK - RAC man (who was biker himself and knew his stuff) tested it and it was putting out 12.47v and 126A.
Would appreciate any thoughts
