View Full Version : Kinect zoom.
I, or rather my son, got an X Box for christmas and I was thinking about getting the Kinect Zoom as our front room isn't the largest in the world.
It says on the box that it magnifies up to 40% so I was wondering what it is like in the real world.
I was wondering if anybody from the mighty org has one and can comment on it's performance.

I'm intrigued too - I'm pushing the Kinect to the limit in my front room :(

I was in my old lounge but I moved over the new year and now can play 2 player easily.
Yes,it was Hongman.
We have ours up high( 6,6 ft) and its at an angle as we have the Box on the long wall, and that works ok . I dont think Hong got on with the lens that well?

Hi FG1
I didnt really get along with it, and have since rearranged the front room to accomdate! As I said although it allowed it to be used in smaller space, it kept losing my son.
However, I will say that the odds were stacked against us - so it may well work fine for you depending on your layout.
These are my personal experiences, not Microsoft Facts...
- The kinect needs to see the floor in its field of view, otherwise it will think you can constantly crouching/kneeling
- Large background objects (like a sofa) directly behind a player makes it trip out a lot. If its showing on the Kinect either side of you though, seems to be fine.
- The kinect zoom gives you a smaller playable area, so if you move forward a full step, you have to remember to move back quick, otherwise you end up being too close etc.
I will see if I can find it when I get in (I think I have a good idea where it is). PM me your address, can have it if you want, try it out or whatever.
