Little bit of background information...Haven't had an insurance policy for nearly 2 years now, the last being with MCE. Due to me cancelling my insurance, I had to pay a redemption figure for a couple of months after cancelling to fully pay up my insurance to the end of it's term. All settled up and paid off.
Phone call from Mum yesterday, 'you have a letter with the heading Debt recovery', racked my brains for 20 mins about what it could be, couldn't think of any DD's I may have missed etc so said open it...It's MCE wanting £75.75 from me within 3 days otherwise county court action will be taken against me.
Call them, woman admits she can see I paid up over 18 months ago and cannot understand why I have had this just out of the blue but is going to refer to a manager to check my debt over...
Helmets.

Tell them you will see them in court. The courts don't like having their time wasted by useless compaines.

If they do issue a writ against you for god sake appear even though you know they have made a mistake.
You fail to appear they could get a default judgment against you.
My sister got one from an internet provider.
Had to take a day of work to appear and show the prof on her bank statement she had paid them what end statment sum was.
Luckly she kept all the papperwork.
Never got jack for her inconvinience though.

Oh yes do it! Nail it to them. MCE are utter cretins! :smt040
I have still not forgiven them for miss-selling my policy and then cancelling my insurance with out even so much as a polite phone call, which in turn left me riding uninsured. :toss:
MCE, the words fail me. Do please see them in court and do please post up their utter humiliation!

Called them yesterday to sort...
They were adamant that someone needed to look into it still...I refused to put the phone down and simply called back for the same person until they passed me to a manager or gave me a reasonable answer as to why after 18 or so months it was perfectly fine to all of a sudden send me threatening letters after no warning or requests previous.
Bottom line of it was, there was a recent audit done and this was the amount outstanding, which I still claimed to be absolute bullsh1t. Told them how I was going to happily go to court and see this through because they were making a massive mistake as I had proof of no contact from them just this threatening letter and them confirming that I had fully completed as all of my telephone conversations were through a recorded work telephone system - chin up. All of a sudden a manager was available and the debt was wiped. Suprise.
Pushed my luck asking for a letter of apology, but they are writing to me to confirm the debt has been cleared.

Not good plowsie :(
I have to admit though, I know these guys have had a slating on here before But I used them for two years with no problems.
All paperwork was in order, I always pay for insurance up front so no credit but have never had to claim with them.
Maybe it would have been different if I had actually had to use the insurance, but I'll never know.
Bennetts on the other hand, were a right shower of s*** :(

Everyone has at least one story to tell of ****ty insurers. I was with Bennetts when I had my mishap. They were excellent. Sorted out getting me home at no cost to me along with my bike at a time specified by me. That's service. I also needed to call them to finalise some other things after I had re-insured with someone else. They sorted it all out and kept me up to date every step of the way. I really couldn't have asked for more.

I think that's the case Scoobs, sometimes people just fall unlucky with an insurer and others don't. I'd argue Motorcycle Direct were the best insurers I ever had, yet I've seen people complain about them.

I have had a look at a few internet review sites and there are complaints about almost every insurance company out there, however when you look at the details it becomes clear that some companies are far worse than others. Reviews of MCE are pretty poor.
This is what MCE say about themselves (http://www.mceinsurance.com/contents/customer-testimonials/).
This is an independent review site with reviews of MCE (http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews152311.html)
I was with MCE for a year, had no problems (though didn't need to claim) and they sorted me a pair of grid passes for the last round of the BSB at Brands last year, which made my mum's (birth)day.
Every quote I've had from them since then was hilarious though.
ObInsurer, I can offer a thumbs up for Hastings and Chaucer. No quibbles, paid up, job's a good'un.

Haha guess what....
County Court Summons received yesterday.
Ace.
Called to ask WTF and if they really want to do this even though they confirmed last week that there was no further debt and all was clear...Letter in the post making it's way to me apparently...
You wil have no doubt spent £70+ on there premium rate numbers sorting it out.
In fact if your 100% sure you can prove everything, I would go to court, then counter claim for all you costs and stress of having to sort it out...

Even if they confirm by writing that they are not taking further action you have received a Court Summons, you must turn up to that even if it is to show the letter from MCE confirming their incompetence. If you don't go the Court may carry on without you and your side of the story.
At this point I'd be getting legal advise.

Yeah, that's what I'm in the process of doing now mate.
something else to take into consideration about this CCJ fiasco. check your credit rating. if they have put it against your record it's a complete nightmare getting it removed. this has been done to me and it's a red face when your in a shop and about to buy a new bike then 'the computer says no' even though it was ok 6 months prior. but due to a company saying i owed them money (which i don't) my credit rating was demolished in one stupid mistake (which has still not been rectified in 2 years so i cant get credit as they are adamant i owe them money).
worst offenders are insurance company's, mobile phone providers, banks and utility providers who sell supposed debts to debt recovery services (once in the hands of those shower your well and truly stuffed).

Absolutely this. Legal advice and go to court, they are so rubbish, I doubt they have even told the right department in their own company that this decision has been made.
It is my view that MCE are untrustworthy and do go back on their word. This opinion is based solely on my experience with them. Be very careful when dealing with them. Do not give them the tiniest chance of ripping you off. Good luck and do please let us know the outcome, I am begging you! If only you could video the case and put it on Youtube, however don't because I think you go to prison for this. ;-)

Just as a slight derail. Register with experian, then when you have your online file submit a comment against the entry. Someone from Experian will call to talk through it and confirm the details.
From that point on, each time that a credit check is carried out it will now be referred automatically. All companies have a legal obligation to read any notices placed on a credit file when a check is being carried out.
Most companies providing they are happy with the reasoning will take it into consideration.....i have had credit accepted post having had comments added. The whole "comments" element was put in place so consumers had a chance to at least have a useable file after having had been a victim of identity theft or if in this case having had an incorrect default etc registered.
More than happy to advise via pm if anyone wants tips on this as i have been through it all. Plus always worth occasionally registering to check it is all clear.
I was looking at a quote from them (MCE) through Tesco compare... but no longer.
Do be sure to return the acknowledgement of service form and do be sure to serve your defence in time!!!

MCE are awful from my personal experience and my good friend who got into bikes last year. Don't go near!
Good luck with legal stuff against them, ******s.

I phoned MCE to get them to send a letter of proof of my no claims bonus after I changed providers (my renewal from MCE was double the previous year...). First time I called, nothing arrived. Another phone call, said they'd send it there and then. Letter finally arrives and they didn't even write how many years no claims I had on it! Rang them today, 'Oh yeah, sorry about that, we'll send a new letter to you'.
Ugh...
Hope you get things sorted with them though, some solid advice in this thread so far.

That sounds more than familiar - when my renewal came up with MCE the notice didn't mention no-claims history at all and I had to ask three times (all on occasions when they phoned me to pester about renewall) before they sent something out. Same doubling of premium too, but they didn't seem to want or be able to quote with the underwriter from the year before.

Yeah, the amount of chasing I had to do with MCE was just... boring. It took them three attempts to get my policy right in the first place!
The weird thing with MCE was it would have been cheaper (literally half) to cancel my policy then take out a new one with them, yet on the phone they couldn't give that price for renewal... baffling.
Alas, I digress...
