My insurance is due for renewal next month and i want to shop around for the best deal. I have done those horrid comparison site surveys and the cheapest deals are from Swinton or Red Star Equity.

I have 3 yrs NCB and currently pay 31.50 a month with Express Bike Insurance

Both Swinton and STE come in around £27.50 a month or a one off payment of £269.23 fully Comp

Has anyone used either of these companies and are they any good or should I take my business elsewhere?

Regards

Equity red star are a reputable insurance company who pay up when push comes to shove. However it is a game of negotiation with them, silly offer, reject. less silly, reject. Proper offer, cash cheque. I used to act for them in the 70-90s

Who is the insurance company Swinton are proposing?

Swinton are a broker and Equity Red Star are insurance underwriters. I've had lots of policies that are ERS from a variety of brokers but as The Not Grumpy but Opionated One suggests they are only as good as the claims handler assigned to your case in the unfortunate situation that warrants one.

I'd say ERS policies are fine personally.

ERS are spot on. i had dealings with them on the last bike when it got stolen, no arguing and no hassle(they even left me alone while i was recovering from my op which reduced my stress levels unlike my finance company ''spit''). they are how Norwich Union used to be years ago.

Had a fair few ERS policies, luckily haven't had to call upon them.

Equity Redstar exclude the Nurburgring in their bike policy wording.

Do not use Swinton. I did. I regreted it.

They were not interested and did not help one bit after an incident, but were happy to frequently offer to claim for compensation for me and my car passengers resulting whiplash. Which would have been fine if I hadn't been on my bike.

Swinton will also offer you loads of other stuff, such as 3 months free recovery, personal accident & family accident cover. Which is all well & good, but its a pain if you forget to canceel it after the 3 months have expired.

When I went to cancel a bike policy with Swinton, I was told it would cost £80 to cancel. The policy only cost £52!

Think I've had plenty of policies with ERS and no problems.

I'm with Equity Red Star, have been for a few years, can't fault their service and they call back when they say they will etc, Transfering insurance from a 1200 bandit to the new sv650s was a shocker but hope its ALOT less at renewal time. I'd say they're easily above average, tho i've not had to claim yet!

Equity Redstar were my insurers when I had some damage to my bike.
I wrote to them and said, this is the cost of damage (please see attached estimate to repair from local bike shop)

Pay me this amount now and claim is settled.

Engineer came out. Signed off. I got money and fixed bike for whatever it actually cost me to fix...
