Hi there,

does anyone out there have experience of dealing with the MIB?

An tips or comments on how to get things moving swiftly, or am I in the lap of the gods?

Make sure you give them absolutely everything they need to decide the case. Fill the form in fully and clearly - try not to give them a reason to have to come back to you.

If you know a friendly local insurance broker, get them to have a look over your claim for you before you submit it.

I've not had to do one of these for a couple of years but if liability is very clear and it's just property damage then it used to take about 3 months - maybe quicker if you're lucky. If it's a difficult case you might be in for a long haul.

Unless you're a genuine hardship case, you can't really jog them on unfortunately.

Thanks for the input. In a sane world liability shouldn't be disputed and I've got the guy's name and address etc, just the little matter that he wasn't insured at the time of the accident. Rather inexcusable for a taxi driver I thought.

Again thanks.

What and why are you claiming ?

I was stationary, the taxi pulled out of a side road turning right, but drove into me instead of into his lane. I think it's only cosmetic damage to my '06 pointy. I'm getting the full estimate from BLD soon. It's BLD who have told me that they can't pursue the case any more, that I'll have to go the MIB route and that because of this I have to give the hire bike back. Also MIB takes ages.

Was wondering does anyone know if MIB contact police (and in this case the local council) about the driver's offence of not having valid insurance, because this is something I feel that I want to pursue.

No the MIB don't report anything to the police, you would have to do that yourself.

I thought the MIB only pay out for injury compensation resulting from uninsured incidents, but I could well be wrong. Looking forward to seeing how you get on.

Have you got any witnesses?

How long ago was the accident?

Was the accident reported to the police?

Have you got Comp insurance?

There were witnesses, but I was really in shock, both literal and figurative, so didn't get names.

Accident happened in mid December.

Police attended, but weren't that bothered as no-one was injured.

No, TPFT only.

MIB will pay out for property damage these days. I think it was injury only when me and RH were lads. :)

Happy days! There should still be a report of it so you can at least prove he was actually there.

My worry was that, if you reported him for no insurance, he would deny he was there at all. You can't then rely on the MIB's "uninsured drivers agreement" but instead you'd be trying to claim under the "untraced drivers agreement" which has tight timescales for reporting the accident to the police.

Anyway, don't worry about the above - the police were there so hopefully there's a report available. I'm surprised they didn't knick him for no insurance though.

Once you know your costs, you could approach the driver and see if he wants to sort it out with you himself. Would be a quicker way of getting it resolved for you. An MIB claim can go wrong and is worth avoiding if you can.

If you don't think approaching the driver is a possibility, carry on with the MIB. Then report him to the police and the local taxi licencing authority.

Wonder why they didnt do an insurance check/issue producers and the like.If they had done so the taxi driver would have been shown up uninsured and been done for it by now.Did they give you a producer?
