Glad to see that the Highways Agency learned the lessons of last year --- M62 closed due to snow / fog, Snake Pass closed due to snow and ice, Woodhead pass closed due to snow and ice ...
Anyone hoping to cross the Pennines this evening (and all of this afternoon come to that!) - forget it !:smt013

She is still not home, 3 hours later than her normal Friday. I don't want to phone her whilst driving. But being stuck in snow in the middle of nowhere is not something you want to think of your kids doing.

what should they have done then?
left people unequiped for the weather to get stuck or skittle into each other ?, sometimes regardless of how prepared you are the safest thing to do is to close a route.
i work in highway maintenance and winter maintenance, it still amazes me that people think that routes are able to be kept open regardless of conditions, its an unturth that you can prepare totally, the organisations have no control of where snow comes down or how much, the real test is how fast they get control of it once things do get bad and the snow stops

This isn't Bulgaria Nemo, we are talking about 2cm of snow, it's not enough to get stuck in
Route shouldn't be closed to stop people skittling into each other IMO, if they can't figure out that steering, brakes, etc don't work as well, and they need to drive slower...
