Mighty org

How many on here have received notification of their photo driving licence needing renewal? You can do so by the power of the interweb if your passport is less than five years old but the instructions say you must send in your old licence. Just curious to see if anyone has held on to their old one until the new one arrived.

I just posted mine back the other day, didn't see anything about sending the old one in, so I didn't. Where does it say to send old one in???

On the form you can give a reason why you didn't send your old one back, one of the options is "Destroyed"

Chop it up and burn it to fulfill the requirement.......... AFTER they send you a new one... ;)

I went to the post office and sorted it all out there. They even give you a slip to state yours is in the post. Was worth the extra couple of quid and they take the picture and sorta out the paper work. All you need to do is smile and sign on the digipad. Remember to take the 2nd part with you.

I sent mine back, but if you do make sure that you take a good copy of both sides of both parts before you do.

I've heard of new licenses coming back without the correct categories on them.

My missus got her new one today (change of address) and still hasn't sent the old one back yet. I'm surprised they allow it.

I fully meant to send mine off when I changed it but forgot. Found it the other day and shredded it. That said that was July and since then I passed my full license so I've had another one in the meantime.

There has been tons of this going on, people having to retake tests even with 'evidence' being produced.

Don't trust them with anything, they are clusterf*cks IMO.

When you do the renewal online it tells you to. It also says so on the paper version if you do it by post or at the PO.

Thanks for the comments folks.

I applied for a photo licence because I had lost my original paper one (and figured some form of photo ID might be useful at times). Found it five years later when we moved house - it had fallen down the back of a cupboard!

One of my mates didn't send back both parts of his license after a change of address. Got his license suspended by the DVLA, but didn't know anything about it because they sent the mail to his old address.

Found out when Plod stopped him and asked to see his license. Lots of faffing about while DVLA sorted out new license, but managed to avoid ending up in court.

So, remember to tick the 'Destroyed' box, and shred it after the new one arrives.

The new one has already arrived! Looks OK (all the categories are still there) so can send in the old one now.

Have sent mine back for change of address a few years ago, also just sent mine back for the photo renewal.
Went to the post office, they sorted it and it arived withing a couple of days, I did copy it both times to be on the safe side.

I noticed on the form that if you have a passport <5 years old then you can do it online...mine wasn't but I'm assuming that they use that photo and you don't need to send in your old licence just destroy iy (as you can do with passports...when the wife 'lost/didn't look properly' hers). It begs the question though, if you can use a 5 yr old passport photo, why is the photocard 10 years and not 15? I assume that the photocard will still be valid for 10 years once you get it?

They tell you to cut it in two & send the bits in.

Applied for mine online middat Monday & got it back this morning - with all categories!
Used the 'passport' method, which was painless.
S'pose I'd better send old one ( 35 yrs) back now.

My plan too, send them the old one when I get the correct new one.

Used the passport method too, so hopefully this will go well. I'll report back when I get post.

New one arrived today, all entitlements intact. A good service to be fair.
