Lake District routes?

Hi all,

Doing a little tour in April just 3 days 2 nights from milton keynes to leeds around lake districat back to leeds and back to mk, has anyone toured lake district? any must go places? also thinking of going through the dales on the route back, below is our rough route around district through dales back to leeds.

route looks good - that road across the yorkshire dales through hawes will make your head spin :thumbsup:

well obviously you've chosen to miss out the wrynose/hardknott pass bit, I also like the road up there from Ulpha, I normally call in for some Grassmere gingerbread and as you're doing the Buttermere/Honister pass loop you might as well call into the filling station by Keswick (I've not been there yet, but will do in a couple of weeks time).
Across the Dales, I prefer to go a bit higher than you've planned and up to Tan hill turning down there and taking Buttertubs then down to Hawes, then onto the Dent road out.

Might give you a few ideas.

was thinking of adding Whinlatter Pass to Skiddaw Fells but not sure any views? this is my first tour.

Also any good but cheap places to stay? thinking of staying at Windermere first then not sure.

I did a wee tour last year at the start of April and enjoyed it - apart from me dropping it :pale: when I pulled up to take a photo of Lake Windemere.

I would go down Coniston way where they have a motor museum and a Bluebird museum >>Lakeland Motor Museum clicky<< (http://www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk/campbell_bluebird.php).

We stayed at Ambleside in a hostel which had parking and was only £15 per night.

If you're going that way the little road between Braithewaite and Buttermere (follow the signs to Stair) is worth doing, bit narrow and twisty but great fun.

Ambleside backpackers £20 a night coffe/tea and light breakfast, nice place.

Ambleside directly West to Eskdale or look for Hradknott fort.
