View Full Version : What's the best thing you've won?

I consider myself very lucky in life, but not so in competitions.

Raffles, Euro Lottery, Lottery, Lottery instants, online comp's, newspaper comp's I do loads.

Most I've ever won is a tenner on a lottery instant and bottle of wine at the local fete. Even when I won the wine my neighbour up the road won a wheelbarrow full of booze.

Who's been luckier than me then?

I won a pancake race in 1970

Same as you, mate. Never win a thing. My very best luck was when I was a student, I bought a scratch card at the supermarket which won me £7. I then bought another one which won me £30, and £37 was pretty much what I'd spent on my shop! Apart from that, nothing. I even have a direct debit setup to play the lottery. 1 play on sat and wed draws, and in about 9 months of doing that, I've won a tenner twice. I don't want to do the maths.

Maybe it's cos we're so good, we make our own lucky, and lady luck doesn't feel the need to bless us with her fake kind. :D

£87 on the pools back in 1982. It bought a Ferguson top loading VCR.

£50 on a scratchcard when they first came out.

Won numerous golf comps - more than covered my costs every year.

I won a B3ta Comp a couple of years ago, the prize was... err... Interesting (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Looks-Like-C-k/dp/1408802457).

However, I am not the luckiest person. ;-)

A Smurfs album from Look-In magazine.

And a gents racing bike in a raffle. It was too big for me so everytime I stopped I nearly fell off as my feet didn't touch the ground.

My friends won a million on a scatchcard and they've blown the lot and are now back working for minimum wage behind the bar in our local - silly people.

I won £7,500 on the lottery. Unfortunately, it was before I got divorced, so the ex had it.

£200 on a bandit in a snooker hall, won from the spare £1 we still had on the table when leaving.
Few small raffle prizes
Couple of small prize wins on the lotto/euros

I think everyone has a "lucky friend" though, mines a lad Called Rich (oddly enough). He is definetly worth shadow betting with, he'll play tickets all night when we're at the dogs and with out fail comes away a couple of hundred up. At first it was funny but it passed through annoying and now its damn enfuriating.

My dad does the Irish lottery. For a laugh last year I told him to take 2 quid and I chose some numbers for him to do.

Hes as blind as a bat and a bit daft, and accidentally did the same numbers twice...someting to do with doing four lines and 50p each...no idea really.

Anyway.....I'm glad he did it wrong, coz he won me 300 quid :D

Beginners luck. I've not done the lottery since!

In terms of gambling, £1,570 on my third (and last) bet on football. (£45 bet)

Other than that? I've never really won any competitions or anything else, the odd few quid on the lottery (£66ish being the most).

I had my name called out of a tombola at a 5,000 strong sales seminar to get up on stage and dance around like a prat.. My prize was a complete 'Self Improvement' box set by the event organizers that netted £350 off ebay at the first opportinuty. Oh, I also won a World Championship Thai Boxing Video when I won a local inter-club match when I was about 12... which my dad used to record the Golden Child over, i actually still have the video!

Back in the 70s I went about £4,000 worth up at the casino in Monaco. That was a small fortune. We only went in with 1000 franc each as experience money. By the time I was dragged out I had lost half my winnings. But still to come back from 3 weeks of holiday with more money than you set off with was a experience.

About the 2nd or 3rd week of the lottery, my brothers father in law "Black Jack" got 5 and a bonus. Off he trots with the cheque for about £105,800 to his local barclays.
As he deposits it he asks if he can take the odd 800 as the wife would like to do a bit of shopping. The poor girl says sorry sir, you need to wait for the cheque to clear.

His response :- "GET ME THE F***ING MANAGER". Now a big black guy shouting gets a quick response the manager duly appears to see what the commotion is and why has that black man not got a gun as they all have. He takes one look at the cheque and the camalot banner on it and says. We can do better than that sir, why don't you take the £5,800 and have a little holiday whilst you wait for it to clear.

Well he bought off his council house that was geared up for his spina bifida son, fired off his wife, bought a bit of naughty fun and became a regular client of a local turf accountant. 2 years later he had gone back home to St Vincent to build a house with what was left. Sold the ex council house to fund his life in the Caribbean and is now apparently very happy with a new girlfriend younger than his grand kids.

Money can make you happy

I used to bunk off school at the gondola cafe round the corner from my house cuz it had a pool table. Went in there one day with no money, walked past the bandit, hit all the buttons and then hit collect and it paid out £10, couldn't believe it, it's safe to say we spent it all on pool and sausage sarnies! :)

Ah the gondola, that used to be my pre golf cafe :)

Haven't won loads but had a few little wins.

On my 18th birthday I went to coleshill for a few drinks before going into brum and put a quid in a fruit machine and won £28, this was 1988 so that paid for the rest of my night :)

Had £330 on the gee gees, £10 each way treble at Cheltenham, but two horses come in first :)I was with the wife in hospital at the time when my mate who put it on for me told me.

I've been the dogs 3 or 4 times and every time I've won enough so I haven't spent any of my own money.

Few £10 quid wins on the lottery.

My best and proudest was in junior school, my drawing won an area competition for two tickets to a show at the NEC which I promptly left in my desk so didn't go :(
Considering I'm not a good drawing person, it meant a lot :)

I got my business card drawn out the hat at a networking event last Friday morning and won a vegetarian haggis and a large turnip. Very tasty it was too.

The other prizes were a pot plant and a bottle of Bell's cooking whisky, so I thought I'd done alright.

I won Formula Schools competition 3 years in a row and a total of 4 times. The project was to spend a year building a 1/10th scale petrol powered remote control car and then take it to Silverstone and race against 100+ schools from all over the UK. Might not be much, but made me the best Technology teacher in the UK! :smt040
If you look on Allan mcNish's sleeve he has our team logo on it and then went onto win LeMans that year.

I have wona few things over the years with entering competitions but still waiting for the "big win".

On a ferry from dover filled in a free competition to win a mountain bike. A few weeks later i receive a letter asking me to call a number and tell the person what colour and size of bike i wanted.

Won a X box 360 with Kinect thing at the work xmas raffle this year. (sold on very quickly as the not interested in it)

I enter lots of free competitions and sometimes put my wife down as the entrant. A couple od years ago i received a call from a company to arrange delivery of some organic compost that i had won in her name. They asked about access to the house for the delivery "truck" and whether i had stones on the drive or concrete!!! When i asked why he said that it would be unloaded with a pellet truck! Told the wife to make sure her car was off the drive on the day of the delivery. Received a call from the wife to say that the delivery had been made and she couldn't get her car on the drive as there was a pallet of "posh sh*t" there. got home to find a cubic meter (1 tonne) of organic compost. Magnaged to give most of it away in the end.
