Lol, I'll bear that in mind ;) Btw what kind of age range are the members here?
-Ralph-

Full spread of ages mate, very few actually act their age though. Some young 'uns 18 and upwards over Birmingham way. There are a couple of right fossils over Worcester way and also up towards Nuneaton who forgot to grow up. There's a middle aged grumpy bloke over in Brum who keeps telling us his body has been knackered out by his physical job. We have an honorary member who left the area an now lives down London way, but still comes up for rideouts, he's only in his early 20's, but already has a crop of white hair and he wears his Dad's jumpers. There's your typical mid life crisis family man who's totally under the thumb and can't decide whether to sell or keep his bike. A really skinny guy who rides the wrong colour Triumph and is too fragile to ride his KTM to and from the green lanes (uses a trailer, always has, denies it!). There's an old married couple over Birmingham way who left us; maybe next year they'll decide they can afford bikes again and come back. There a guy with really shocking ginger hair that likes to wear ladies clothes. A really, really, short one (think has to stop at a kerb) who's levels of sarcasm are beyond match.
It takes all sorts really mate.
A friend of Ralphs and a pointy owner? Have you got anything going for you?

It's OK, he's never met me, I just pointed him to the Madlanders section in another thread. You don't have to shun him quite yet.
Phew, thats OK then.... although I didn't notice what section this was in. I'm not from here! doh!
Lol a right bunch then. Looking forward to some meets and stuff. When do you guys usually get going ;) and ssshh love my SV =)

Welcome mate :)
I presume I'm the grumpy middle aged one from brum?
Probably the oldest active member yet the only one who ever organises anything these days so more active than the young uns nearly half my age ;)
Give it a month and we'll be out on rides.
Do you fancy coming to normandy the end of april ? More than welcome dude.
Sounds good, I'm new to the trip/camping thing. How much will it cost all in, spending included?

Ferry is approx £53
Camping is approx £5 a day x3= £15
Fuel probably about £100
Food, not sure cos we will probably do some tent cooking, BBQ etc so not much.
I think it should be around £300, maybe less.

Welcome to the madhouse.......
Ralph - "There's an old married couple over Birmingham way who left us; maybe next year they'll decide they can afford bikes again and come back."
Not us you are describing?
Awesome, I'll come out with you guys first and I'll start putting some money away. I'll probably be needing help too anyway. Need to get some cheap gear, or make existing luggage work. Main thing is tent and that. Could possibly borrow one for the purpose of the trip =)
Oh and I know I've asking stuff in the main sv forum, but how do you guys find room on the back of your bikes? Noticed tailback/bag on pillion and there's tent etc. rolled up behind. Do you have a rack for that (where top box would usually go) or do you just make it work somehow lol?
Drew Carey
15-02-12, 03:37 PM
Hi mate.......most people tend to use the soft luggage panniers as the base.....ie put those on as usual, then if you have no pillion, you strap the tent / sleeping bag / roll matt down onto the seat and the panniers etc.
If however, you will always have a pillion, you can get away (if stuff is light enough) with strapping things to pannier only - however, it would be much safer to get a luggage rack. These usuallt bolt where the pillion grab handle is - with the benefit that the stuff can be strapped to it and thus also forms a back rest for the passenger.
This kind of thing;

PS - copious quantities of bungee cord are your friends - along with some ratchet straps. You can get soft luggage sitting very firmly with a bit of time and planning. Just make sure you protect any paintwork etc.
What rack you got there mate? =)
Drew Carey
15-02-12, 03:45 PM
I haven't......as I don't own a motorbike anymore :-(
That was just one of the generic google lookups. However, here is the one that people have recommended;
http://www.renntec.co.uk/suzuki_sv650_sports_rack_carrier
It is pricey but really would make touring easier.
PS - if you have any conerns re the weight etc - its all been discussed before;
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=127532
Brilliant, I've heard about the renntec, I think people have managed a tent and what not on them.

Or buy a top box and rack, then if you sell the bike, your top box will fit to the new one.
Ive used soft luggage but all mine is hard now apart from tank bag as its more secure, takes 2 seconds to put on and off the bike, soft panniers are a pain to fit imo.

F4ll3n, forgot to mention the vanity and pre-Madonna attention seeking qualities found in our lot. The TEC (tail end charlie) on all our rideouts has to carry round a full length mirror and a make-up set! ;-)

Yeah it seemed a little quite last year in here, I hope to be out and about on the bike soon for a few months :). Will have to put stablizers on mind as its been that long....... waits for comments.

Replied in other thread F4ll3n
I am not sure if I was on Ralph's list. I too have only met him once. Haven't ridden a bike since July, have made about 4 posts on here in the last few months and have only been on 3 or 4 Madlander's rideouts.
However I plan on getting a new bike soon so should be able to make a couple more rides this summer. If you can find your way to Long Itchington diner on a Saturday morning you'll probably find Phil (Specialone) there stuffing his face.

I'll have you know I'm on a bit of a fitness quest, so have cut down a lot on that stuff, reduced my alcohol consumption by about 75%.
Dont get me wrong I haven't stopped eating brekkies, just less regular :)
Well done! Maybe you'll be able to fit on a sports bike one day.

Nope being 41 with the fitness and body of a 50 year old stops that, anyway sports bikes are for young hooligans, real men have sports tourers that are heavy and take strength to ride :)

I felt they shouldve won the game at stamford bridge tbh, not sure at our place though, we play better but they wont be as slack twice.
Yeah has become a random thread... Chelsea are awful this year. But I think it might be a different game at Stamford Bridge.

Lol I think I've managed to say "hello" on this thread by now!
How has this thread gone so random???? Hi Russ collar bone is half way there. Just on the list to get the plate taken out which could take another 6 months. I will be up for track days as soon as I get a bike. Which if all goes to plan could be this weekend. Prob won't be doing Mallory straight away though. Have you got any planned yet?
Spiers? What happened to Frankengixer? You booked any track days either?

Nothing planned yet. I've got to get a tow bar on my new car but other than that i'm good to go. Glad to hear you're back on the horse mate
Getting there, there is a possibility I get back on a bike and crap myself and then ride everywhere at 10mph. Although that wont be too bad, at least Phil would have some company at the back :p
Maybe we should organise a Madlanders track day sometime.

Lenny, you've obviously proved to yourself that a litre bike isn't for you and you struggle with the extra power, as a friend, can I suggest something a bit more suitable to your ability so you don't end up in a sling again...:)
http://i758.photobucket.com/albums/xx225/specialone0055/b42c67b8.jpg
Sorry mate but I am not as old as you so and don't know what that bike is. But you are right, a litre sports bike is too much for me. That's why I am getting a 600.
Specialone
24-02-12, 02:14 PM
Well so you can search around for the best deal, I'll help you out, Honda cg125, I'm sure you probably learnt on one of these as most people have so you'll take to it straight away :)
After some experience on this, you could progress on to a restricted SV or similar, but wouldn't push it tbh.
Oooh nice a CG125. Yes I did learn on one but it was a 2004 model so looked a bit different to that. It even had a disc brake.
I think I will stick with my TS50, even though things get a bit hairy when I hit 43mph down a huge hill.
-Ralph-
24-02-12, 03:35 PM
Will you go any slower on a 600 Lenny?
Probably I am hoping that I will be able to notice what speeds I am doing, on the Fireblade 90mph was barely ticking over. I am hoping the 600 will be more fun at slower speeds. Plus if I am honest the Fireblade scared the crap out of me sometimes, especially when the weather was less than perfect.
-Ralph-
24-02-12, 03:52 PM
Theres nothing much between the chassis on a 600 and the chassis on a litre, its just got less power, but they still go like f**k when revved hard. In tems of knowing what speed you are doing they fell the same. They dont have the torque of the bigger bike, but thats only a problem if your a bit hamfisted with the throttle. I honestly dont think a sports 600 is a 'safer' choice and will be just as quick on the road as the litre bike because you cant use the litre bikes potential on the road anyway. I said on here before I never in 5 years on the SV found anothef bike I couldn't keep up with below 100mph. If you want a bike you can thrash without geting inyo trouble so easily get an SV again and stick some gixxer forks and a decent shock on it.
-Ralph-
24-02-12, 03:54 PM
posting on phone pls ignore sp grammar
The main reason I am getting a 600 is cost. Cheaper to buy, insure, tax, and hopefully better on fuel and tyres.
