Col, ive done one days google map, what do you think?

Looks good. Couple of bits of feedback IMO

The D199 (http://g.co/maps/xt5yz) looks very narrow. Maybe we would be better on the D113 (http://g.co/maps/2hq3h)?

The N13 is a big dual carriageway, and we wanted to try to stick to biking roads. How about the D613 (http://g.co/maps/c7ehn), followed by the D974 (http://g.co/maps/qa9kf), before rejoining your route on the D913 (http://g.co/maps/xpbf3)?

The D329 (http://g.co/maps/ddsh7) is tiny as well, better sticking on the D913 through Ste Marie du Mont

The whole route from waypoint 'I' back to Ste Mere Eglise (http://g.co/maps/2apjd) is tiny too, if we are going as far as waypoint 'I' to see something, then we'd be better coming back on ourselves and using the D15 (http://g.co/maps/d7my9)

(Give me five minutes after posting to check all the links work)

French maps are a pain in the rssss. We have A, B, C and unclassified roads. The French have N and D, and there's often no way of telling the difference between a good sweeping 90kph D road, and a 6 ft wide single track that can turn to gravel with no warning.

Looks good to me. Didn't realise we were visiting stuff on those tiny lanes on the way back to Ste Mere Eglise

Since we don't know what day it will be yet (obviously not day 1 as it's nowhere near Le Havre), do you want to give it a name so we know which route we are talking about i.e. "Beaches route" ?

I'll tyre it and upload the ITN so we have the exact same routes on our spac navs.

Were not after L on the route, but between L and M is all coastal road so its a bit more open than the reverse journey and not very far so rather than trace our steps we can see a bit more.

I have it saved in tyre as normandy west route.

I'll name the POI's on the routes if you like and send you the ITN files?

I was reading it backwards actually. So we are going clockwise? And we are visiting J and K?

Yep two gun batteries, not long stops but we're there so might as well.
Oh clockwise yes mate.

Reason is, i thought we could have an extended stop at Omaha beach as its the main place i wanted to visit, so could combine that with a lunch stop, so that would be about right for dinnertime i think.

OK, that looks cool. Send me the ITN and I'll drop it on the TomTom Rider too.

One thing I find you have to watch with the ITN's is it just gives the sat nav a set of waypoints, but the sat nav still calculates the route between the waypoints. 95% of the time it chooses the same route as google maps, but sometimes it doesn't and you can end up on a dual carriageway because the sat nav has decided it's quicker. I find sometimes I need to put additional waypoints on the ITN in Tyre to force the sat nav down the roads I want it to take.

Yeah found this out before, i pre-empt now where i think tomtom will divert and look for a quicker route and add another waypoint.

I think you can add upto 49 waypoints per route, so i try and make sure i have plenty on the roads i defo wanna go down.

Putting routes from Tyre onto a garmin is a black art, as I found out in France. You have to be careful as sometimes it jumbles the way points. Believe me I know from France.

If you upload it to your Satnav make sure that you check that the waypoints flow and you're not doubling back on yourself etc!

Right, being as the weathers been crap ive been doing some research, ive also spoke to my nephew who's really into this stuff like me ( he's been to normandy for 10 days) and he's said we will need time to look round these places so what ive decided to do is knock the omaha beach bits off the west route and do that as part of a central route so we can spend more time in that area.

Point du hoc apparently has loads to see and explore, gun placements, pill boxes etc so we'll need more time there.

I'll keep y'all posted.

I was going to include Falaise as its a bit further south but with spending a bit of time in Caen and some time at Pegasus birdge etc i thought we'd be struggling tbh.

The bit of main road at the beginning is a necessary evil, gets us onto a roads quicker and away from the busy town.

I know you want an adventure bike Phil, but can we wait 'til you've got one to test out the long travel suspension? ;-)

Slight de-rail, but when did Phils name turn green?

Are you ill, or does this mean you're in charge? (Please don't throw me out for de-railing your thread [-o<)

You're going to hit me with something.

Does the D101 take us somewhere in particular, that the D16 won't?

I know you want an adventure bike Phil, but can we wait 'til you've got one to test out the long travel suspension? ;-)

The ITN's all load on my TomTom and look approx the right route on the maps. I don't have the patience to scroll around the sat nav screen to check they are exactly correct. If we go a bit wrong on the day we'll deal with it.

Cool, i don't think we'll go too far wrong, they will get us where we need to go I'm sure.
