I have a problem with the XT, I thought it may be carb icing, but went out today in +5 temperatures and it's still doing it. Given the nature of the problem, I think it's the CDI unit which are prone to failure, but are expensive to replace and difficult to get hold of, so I want to rule out all the other possibilities, before investing in a new one. It only happens under acceleration, when the bike cuts out completely for a number of seconds, so the only way to find the fault will be a process of elimination, followed by a test ride.
As some of you know I'm moving house shortly, and I have to service the Daytona, bring it out of winter storage, and do a few other bits and pieces of work on it before the carnage trip, so I don't have time at the moment to spend hours and days trying to find and fix the fault on the XT. Then once we get into the new house I'm going to have sh!t loads of DIY to do which will take priority over fixing the XT.
So basically I'm taking the XT off the road and surrendering the tax disk. I plan to have the Daytona back on the road and taxed for 1st April, ready to go to France at the end of April.
So, from a biking perspective, I'm off the road completely for the next six weeks, and the XT is off the road (no greenlaning) for the foreseeable future.

That sucks :(
I was gonna suggest getting out soon as well.
Als looking at getting a xt, wonder if you could swap his to try to confirm it is that?

Maybe. It could be a simple as a coil or a spark plug, or a loose battery connection, or a chafe in the wiring loom. Whatever, I'm going to stick it in a corner of the garage and forget it exists until we are settled in the new house and I have some free time to mess with it.

Bugger Ralph - that sounds naff. And just as we were discussing XTs. Being without for 6 weeks is tough.
On the subject of XTs (bit of hijacking here) - I haven't been to see that one yet. Didn't get the chance this weekend for one reason or another. Had the car MOT'd saturday which cost me a few quid welding the seat frame and I had to get 3 new tyres that were on the way out. £350 lighter I wasn't in the mood for bike shopping! Wasn't expecting to spend that much on MOT, so will have to wait to top up my 2nd bike cash fund.
If I do get an XT, then I can come over and you can rip parts off it trying to find whats up with yours.

Yeah, much as we'd love to put bikes first, sometimes life gets in the way.
My wife has already expressed her dismay at me being without a bike for 6 weeks, and says I'm going to be a moody barsteward by the end of it. Look on the bright side, I'll be ecstatic when I get on the Daytona again.
Thanks v much for the offer of test parts if you do get yours! That will be a big help if I'm struggling to find the fault.

I went for a quick blast on the sprint today, god i was rusty, havent used it since 2nd of Jan so as id got used to the drz, my cornering was a bit lazy and ran a bit wide at times :(
I did see double the NSL briefly on a private road just to blow the cobwebs away.
When you get round to looking at the XT Col, if im free i can pop over to lend a hand if required?

Yeah, I wouldn't mind going out a few times in April & get back in the zone so I'm not tip toeing round corners on the France trip.
