Magnet links enable a site to point to where a bittorrent client needs to look to find all the information that would have been contained within the actual "xxxxxx.torrent" file

It means that a site doesn't actually need to host any files, only provide links, meaning less bandwidth, space required, and issues with some copyright

Newsgroups have always been great... provided you have a good news provider that gets all the posts.

There was nothing worse than realizing that XXX_HOT_TEEN_REDHEAD.AVI had been divided into 56 parts and your server missed part 52. At times it seemed half the activity was people either requesting reposts (often of just the specific missed parts) or someone got frustrated and reposted the whole darn thing AGAIN.

The Filesharing sites went Apesh1t for week, now its all settled down its business as usual, wish someone would delete all the dead Megaupload and Filesonic links though!
