Considering how often Air Ambulance is deployed on what appear to be calls well within the scope of a road ambulance, I think it's payback time:

At last, a sensible and factual e-petition. Signed.

That'll be only the second one of these e-petitions I've signed, definitely a ridiculous situation, the likes of the RNLI and Air Ambulance really shouldn't be suffering the eco-mentalist BS we're forced to endure...

Yep, don't sign many and as much as I admire the RNLI, the Air Ambulance must save more lives and are called out far more than the Lifeboats.
Both should have the same rules applied to them

+1......just signed. I think this is a very worthy argument that needs to be had. I would love to hear a member of Govt explaining why this is permitted for the RNLI but not the Air Ambulance Service......to be frank I think it is discusting that this is not part funded anyway - most people I bet would not have an issue if it was.

Most fuel supplied for maritime use is rebated fuel (ie red diesel) so fishermen don't pay the same as you or I do for ordinary diesel, but that's fuel duty not VAT.
I don't know if maritime diesel attracts the same amount of VAT as the AV Gas that the paraffin budgies use.

I think Aviation fuel does have a much lower duty than the diesel that RNLI will use, so the Air Ambulance might actually already be paying less per litre.
I assume a helicopter sups it quicker than a boat?
Please note this answer has no basis in research - it's just that I know the 2 stroke lads that use Avgas can get it pretty cheap if they can pretend it's for a plane.

Dunno but the 2 caterpillar diesels will suck quite a bit at full chat, but the Air Ambulance are going to be called out more, so would use more fuel on that basis I guess?
AVTUR carries no duty and 5% VAT. Aparrently it costs £2.6 million to run Yorkshire's air ambulance and they pay £5k in VAT per annum on fuel.

If those figures are correct, and Im not doubting them, this whole issue is a bit of a sideshow.

It may be a relatively small amount, but I'd still rather see the £5k spent on extra bandages

Yes, I believe a sea king or similar will sup about 700l/hr.

After we did the beast run, we went to see the north west air ambulance set up. I have nothing but respect for the guys who sit in a portacabin in the ar5e end of an almost deserted airfield, just waiting to be called out to what are generally very messy accidents. From horse riding accidents to biking and other rta's.
They are so meticulous when loading the copter too because every extra pound of weight increases fuel consumption and reduces operating time. They're always glad to see visitors and will take you round the setup if you rock up to visit them.

For all the money we spend on war machines, I'd rather my money was spent on things like the Air Ambulance & RNLI so that they don't have to rely on our charity donations to keep them going.
I'm currently selling and have sold some of my late fathers more valuable books on Amazon in aid of the East of England AA. Its better to use Amazon, as I can dictate the price, so I don't sell them off cheap on Ebay. But the postage rates I can charge don't reflect the actual charge Royal Snail charge me, so the profits which I pass onto the Air Ambulance are reduced to cover the postage cost.
But all in all, I've donated the profits from these sales and rather than dump these books, they've gone to people who want them, which would have pleased my Dad.
