I am working from home today. Those that know where I live would probably describe it as a very small close.

Well there was the noise of a bike screaming outside. So who has turned up?

No it was the neighbours son who is visiting his parents and decided to get his R1 up and running for the first time in a year. Having jump started it he is revving the tits off trying to get some life in the battery.

Then off he screams down the road no helmet and up the A6 at full throttle, he returns 5 mins later.

Whilst he acknowledges my indication about the lack of a helmet. He then states "Why is it telling me I have no oil"?

Still revving like mad I tell him it is a pressure indicator not level indicator, he says he isn't going to stop it because it wont start. Me and neighbour thinking it ain't going to run much more if you don't sort out the oil.

5 mins later off he screams and goes round the bend no handed as he fastens his jacket. Neighbours comment He is either very confident or a kn0b. Why am I thinking the latter.

There are 5 bikers on this little close. All of us 40+. Why does one kid have to ruin the neighbours impressions of bikers with kn0bbish riding in a residential area?

Oh :)

But he won't stay that pretty for long if he keeps riding without protection :(

oooh quick editing there Tim! ;)

Similar thoughts. You would think that for someone whose looks are obviously important protecting them would be a priority.

Yes I realised that perhaps giving a link to him was a bit naughty

Saw a guy on a track/race bike riding through our village today. No lights, no registration and I assume no tax. He was riding sensibly enough, etc and I guess the general non-biking public wouldn't even notice, they'd just see it as another motorbike. Thing is, it looked like a litre sportsbike of some description, so the police have no way of identifying it, and unless the helicopter or another police bike just happens to be in the right place at the right time, no way of catching it.

This time of year both amuses and worries me with the amount of bikers crawling out of the woodwork after not riding for X amount of months. Majority of those riders are no doubt sensible folk who just don't appreciate ice surfing and sledging but there's a growing number of utter feckwits and I'm bloody hoping I don't end up being literally bumped into by one of them!

I was following a learner scooter on the way home from work today, he was kissing the ar$e end of a lorry, like he was playing peek-a-boo and creeping out occasionally to sneak a peek at the road in front. He was copying the lorry's braking habits and I was staying well back and cringing every time we went round a corner. I'd caught up with him in a queue and he'd turned round to nod at me, I just wish I'd caught up with him earlier than that so I could've mentioned something about being visible, he peeled off at a junction before I got a chance to mention owt  I've never felt the need to partake with "advice" but it was painful to watch.

And we were both stuck behind this truck doing 20 mph round tight bends and no overtaking opportunities before you all comment on why I was stuck behind a scoot in the first place ;)

We've got one enormous kn0b jockey who lives over the road. In a morning he goes screaming off early, in an evening he comes back screaming down the road on his toothpaste bike....usually when the street is full of kids after school, none of his neighbours appreciate his behaviour, especially me.

On the otherhand, the big ol Z, is affectionately spoken about by the neighbours, it gently lulls them out of bed in a morning on tickover, and gently rolls away with its pilot to work. No fuss, no fanfare.

We had one of those in town a couple of years back. A painfully loud 98-ish CBR hitting the limiter in third is moving pretty quick for residential streets. The ex called the cops who responded that they had already heard him. We never heard or saw that bike again.

One of our neighbours in town was going on about motorcyclists one day as I gently steered him towards the open double doors on the shed... Oh! I had been there for 5 years or so and he'd been over many times. I had always quietly used the rear gate and he didn't know that I ride. He still had cause for complaint with which I agreed, but ceased his all encompassing generalisations and targeted more specific problems.

R1 has level indicator light - it just means the oil level is low, if there were none it would pop soon enough, sadly as it continues to run I suspect it's just a little low.

Can't help feeling sorry for the bike, but he's a blithering idiot though.

So you're saying a lambo with 4 fat tyres and masses of grip can't go round a slight corner faster than a motorbike?

Maybe its because Joe was taking the corner like a 50p and the lambo was scared of running over him when he fell off his bike?

It's possible, I once had a police car wash out trying to keep up with me on a long left hander on the A57 in the peak district , I had four contact patches; both tyres, peg & of course knee but could feel the bike slipping away luckily I just managed to get my elbow down in time to regain control.
