View Full Version : PPI Claims, have you done one ?
Apologies if this has covered done already, Ive had a search and couldnt spot a thread, anyway has anyone done it ? I have, I recently made a couple of claims, one against a loan and one against a credit card and both were upheld. I'm not usually one for taking out insurance on purchases Im kinda of the mind that If it breaks I'm taking it back, anyway the mrs and I decided to check it out, we were advised to go direct to the loan/card issuer direct and not to go through the collection firms advertised on tv/radio etc, they will typically take up to 35% plus vat, the fil recently was awarded £9000 against a loan with the TSB and the agency took £4500 off him, not only that but they hassled him daily until it was paid despite the fact he hadnt received the cheque yet. As you may already know the banks and credit card companies arent always upfront regarding the money you are having taken and in the case of the TSB they virtually harrased us into taking out ppi despite the fact we really didnt need it, the good thing about all of this though is that these firms have only a limited time to sort these claims out and dont seem to be knocking any back. Most banks and credit card firms have there own websites and usually have a link to ppi claims and faq etc although you may have too look around a bit to find it, they dont want to give you the money back basically, the process is pretty straightforward and all you need to do is either ring a dedicated help line or download a doc from the financial ombudsman fill it in and post it off, on top of this the banks and credit card companies are throwing an extra 8% on top what they owe but this is apparently to stop soon, so if youre thinking about it dont hang around, check this site for more info

p.s. I really hate the banks etc, they were charging us £30 a letter for being pennies over our o/d draft limit so to get a nice little cheque in the post was very satisfying, and just to give you an idea of what you may get back on the first claim I recieved a cheque sufficient to buy this

and the second would have got me this

Give it a go, you never know :)

I got 6.5k back, and did it all myself. The companies offering to do it, are all in it to swindle you anyway! Its very simple to do off your own back, you just need to be persistent, know what questions to ask, and don't necessarily have to go to the ombudsmen
Unfortunately, that 6.5k paid to fix the car(HUGE BILL, still ongoing), and use as income because as soon as I got it, Peg was out of work for 2 months :(
It was going to be used towards getting out of this house :(
I did get a new front door though!
I've helped one or two people get money back, the biggest one being 10k :D

Got one in at the moment, early days yet but a firm wanted 30% and I would have had to fill in mega pages of info, so I thought if I have to do that then I might just as well do it myself, so I did, they are gathering information...

I worked for a ppi company for a few months, don't use them !!!! They take the mick out of you, 39% our company charged, it's really easy to do yourself, have a look at the financial ombudsmans website and you can fill in a form from then and easy as that, if you have any questions send us a pm, I know quite a lot about all that ****

Takes a fair while for them to get their act together too BFM.
What annoys me, is now I've sorted it all out, my evenings are filled with phone recordings of
' Hello, this is important, have you ever had a credit card or loan...blahaahaahahahahahaa!!!!!
They won't feck orf=;
Claimed it myself first off. When the CC company fobbed me off I went to the Ombudsman. They sorted it free of charge.

Every other day....you lucky git, I get phoned in varying guises, at least four times a day, and they all like calling after 4pm!
Was talking about this with my workmate today, he has started the ball rolling with one of the companies.
I have had a couple of personal loans in the past for about 5k each (think I only have paperwork for one of those somewhere). I also currently have a mortgage.. Does this apply to mortgages? Just trying to weigh up if its worth me even doing it..
Sorry for the n00b question...

It can apply for mortgages, but you have to ask yourself, what would the reasons be for you NOT requiring it in the first place, ie, were you self employed and you weren't covered for unemployment. With mine there was three elements for the protection, two of the elements didn't cover me.
You don't need paperwork, in some cases. Its five years old, so all you need to do is go to your bank and ask for all the account numbers of loans previously held by you (or current), and ask if they had PPI attached. Its a little more complicated for older loans or mortgages. Theres no reason why they won't have the information, it should be all there in the system on your files.
The best place to get info from is moneysaving expert, theres a whole forum section out there to help you

I had a letter from Northern Rock saying that I may have been sold it. I thought "sod it, everybody else will do it". So I sent the form off last week, just waiting to hear back.

Can I have some of you money please? That way I won't have to bother.... ;)

In all 3 loans I had I told them I didn't want the PPI. Wish I had of taken it now as I could do with a nice cash lump sum. +1 on the companies calling the house EVERY SINGLE DAY.
On the claim side everyone I know that has done one has went direct to the bank and not used a 3rd party
