View Full Version : Mazda2 thoughts?
Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy a Mazda 2, good people of the Org?
I want a car that size (so don't suggest a different sort of car) and I've looked at several others (Yaris, Corsa, Ibiza) but Mazda have offered me a cracking deal that beats all the others.
Any known problems or warnings in these cars?

Look at the rating charts and you'll find Mazda up there with the best.
I don't know of any problems with this one & I doubt you'll find much wrong

A mate of mine had one a few years ago.
Was nicer at speed than a Ka or some other shoeboxes, but nowhere near as comfy or quiet as a proper car. It was pretty thirsty too from what I remember.
Forget fitting 3 people in the back. Forget putting anything in the boot. Not sure whether that is a standard thing for shoeboxes or not, I don't really understand the point of these vehicles...

I've not heard anything bad about them.
Might pay to check with Seat, as they are paying the VAT on certain models until the end of March - don't know if it applies to the Ibiza or not (not my favorite car, but no mechanical faults with it - and you can fit 3 people in the back for short journeys).

Shares its basic chassis, engine etc with the Ford Fiesta doesnt it ?
If so try the Fiesta, see if you can get a better deal ?

I understand - they are exactly the size of vehicle that suits me

The deal includes no VAT, which works out cheaper than 0% finance. And I only put small people in the back ;0

Yes, the chap said it did. I've looked though and 1. the deal doesn't look as good; 2. they seems a bit pricier and 3. I don't really like the new body shape.
I'm pleased that reports of Mazda 2 are good so far :D

So limited luggage capacity and realistically only one passenger. Have you considered an SV650? :p
LOL!
About the same BHP too!
Yes I know, so another reason to buy one ;)

My ex used to have one . It was quite a good car to be fair . Rear seating is a bit cramped and the boot isn`t great . I felt quite comfy in the front and I am over 6ft . My ex was a tall girl and she was happy with the leg room whilst driving . My only gripe was the dash was very plasticky but I reckon they have probably moved on a bit then . She had the Electric Blue one and liked it so much that when she came to getting a newer version .... she got that mad Green one . It got nicked within 4 hours of getting it home .

I am on my second
The first was a TS2
the latest is the Tamura
It runs great, you can get a lot in boot but it is not family sized.
The engines between TS and TS2 are different
The TS has less power
My only real complaint (for long journeys) is the smallish fuel tank giving a max range of just over 300 miles.
I drove it to London and back (from Glasgow) and I filled up after 250 miles so as not to get a panic.
If you are buying new
the best buy is the Tamura
It has all the features (+ more)of TS2 but cheaper.
Mine does not have cruise control but you can set a speed alarm
Mine buzzes at 80mph
I like it

I was going to say Jazz but they are expensive.Room wise a Tardus and 47- 50mpg.Like most small cars not a great tank range 350-400 which only comes into the equation on long journeys.Had mine 40k miles and it has been faultless but no flying machine and not everybody's choice as it has an old fart image. On the other hand it is number one on the list.

Like everything in life it is a matter of personal choice and if you have set your heart on the Mazda go for it.Not a lot wrong with most of the new cars in that size range,The only thing I check out is the dealer warranty back up and service.Honda try a create a good image as far as this is concerned and the dealership in both Chelmsford and Colchester have been excellent with me

They are a ford fiesta underneath at the end of the day so not bad at all, however you may not know but Renault made a load of thier dealers pre register loads of clio's at the turn of the year, so there are loads of pre reg bargains on the net some cars with like £4000 knocked of them even more at times, may be worth looking at, You can get a 3 door clio with sat nav, half leater, auto lights wipers, A/c bluetooth, alloys, aux imput among other things all included in the price. so maybe worth a look before you decide.

Yes I agree but I just wanted to get a feel for the opinions of others. I don't know anyone currently who has one of these. Honda would be a choice but their first car in their range is a bit big for my requirements. I think Underwoods in Colchester have quite a good reputation as well.
