That's not the type of people we want on our rideouts I think :(

Nah they are alright really. Still don't think they will pay for your breakfast though....

Have I told you I'm a poor student? :p

I was until not so long back too... speak to Phil and Ralph, they are very generous to poor students.

Well, that's a fecking great start to the day, my arai helmet has decided to disassemble itself and is now unwearable.

Clicked the levers as normal, took dark visor off, side pod popped off with it and it looks like one of the POS clips has broke that holds it on has snapped off and it won't hold the visor in place now.

So a new side pod cover is needed.

My old laser lid it is then.

Well it looks like it is the clutch plate. Seemed to get gradually worse on the way back. And as predicted the garage said it's the clutch plate (started to get play in the lever on the way back). Thats another thing to get sorted before France then.

On the plus side while I was in there I saw a very nice K8 GSXR-600 with 3500 miles and 1 owner for about £5500. Now, if I could just match 5 numbers tonight......

Littlepeahead

We got 5 numbers 2 weeks ago - that only wins you about £2k you know!

Why would you possibly try and ruin the one thing I was clinging to as a positive from the day..... ;)

It all helps... I'd only have to find £3500 then.

Of course depending on whether that was for sexual favours or medical research you'd then raise either 26p or about £450.

Good to see you all yesterday, I wasn't at my best yesterday tbh, didn't feel 100%, shame the weather couldn't have been better too.

Good turnout considering the weather really.

I got in at 7.40 and after 50 miles on the mway I was bloody freezing :(

Good day guys, roads were a bit greasy in places (and my beloved bike got dirty grrrr!) but we were going as fast as I'd want to, and faster than my normal sensible pace in places because I was lead and didnt want to spoil anyones fun, so drier roads wouldn't have changed much for me TBH.

Fallen, when is your birthday? I'm going to buy you a tin of parafin and a paint brush! ;-)

Lol ok point taken =p I'll try and clean it up before Normandy! Thanks for helping me out though, bike feels amazing now

Just yanking your chain mate. It will be easier to maintain if clean though. The bike should feel better just for having the clutch adjusted, the tyre balanced and your chain properly lubed and adjusted. Bring it round another day when we have more time, you'll feel an imbalance more at the front than the back so I doubt thats been balanced either, and just about everything I touched on the bike either needed lubed or adjusted. You bought the brake fluid as well, so we might as well change it since you dont know when it was done last. It wont be that long before you need chain and sprockets because you rear sprocket was just starting to hook on some of the teeth, riding with the chain loose wont have helped.

F4LL3N
08-04-12, 04:53 PM
Fair play, I guess we can tackle some of that over the summer =). I'll bear all that in mind, I was saying to Phil that I doubt they've balanced the front if they hadn't the rear. Least it's set for France though.

Specialone
08-04-12, 05:28 PM
I think if your front was out of balance too much you'd notice through the bars so don't worry too much.

F4LL3N
08-04-12, 06:02 PM
Yeah I remember you saying. I took it to hitchin today and it seemed fine. The adjustments stop the bike lagging so much (loose chain, wrongly adjusted clutch) and overtaking is so much easier :)

Wheel balance is often something you don't notice until it's gone, especially on a v-twin which is vibey anyway, and if it's always been there, you just accept it. Still worth balancing up the front at some point in the future. My car I know the wheels are slightly out of balance, but it only gives the slightest shimmer when accelerating between 80 and 90mph on some road surfaces, or in France when running on the opposite camber. The place I get it balanced uses a specialist Hunter GSP9700 balancer, they do the balancing for BTC cars, and charge 60 quid for four wheels. It's worth it, but expensive enough that you don't do it unless you need to, so I'm just waiting until I get a new set of tyres and need balancing anyway. I know however, that when that day comes, my car will feel so much smoother than it does today, even though today there is no 'noticeable' problem 99.99% of the time.

I wasn't impressed that the tyre fitter hadn't bothered TBH, then after you left, it occurred to me that the bugger had put your wheel back on the bike, and it would have taken him all of 30 seconds to adjust and lube your chain for you at the same time, you'd have been paying him something like 20 quid a wheel for ride in ride out fitting, it doesn't take that much to look after your customers with a tiny bit extra! He seems to have done the bare minimum and taken the money.

F4LL3N
10-04-12, 07:22 AM
Yeah does look like that. Think I will try some place else next time. I'll post up for recommendations when I next need tyres !

Phil,

I rang them today. Despite still being under warranty they still want £30 for replacements. On previous occasions they've sent me replacement Arai parts as goodwill. I might try again and see if I can get someone more generous in spirit

I've ordered some mate, so much for a five year warranty :(

I was gonna call them myself but with Normandy fast approaching I couldn't afford to mess about.

Personally I think it's a poor design and they should be replaced under warranty.

Cant understand why any part of your helmets can be broken and it isnt covered under warranty. Does a helmet have wear and tear parts, or have you been doing something to break it which is against the instruction manual??

I spoke to Phoenix technical dept today. They said take it to a 5 star dealer and they'd send the pod for inspection (fock knows what they expect to deduce?). I've done that today and they stuck a temporary replacement on. Just got to wait now to see if they replace under warranty. I'll let you know what happens
