FIRST OFF, NO! NOT AN SV!!!

Its not for me its for a mate but he's got no interest in having an SV, he thinks Im only suggesting it because its what I had etc etc regardless of his female logic Im still trying to help him find the right one.

Anyway he's as flippant as a blonde essex bird, last week he was certain a drz would be the right bike for him. Now he's convinced an old Zxr is the right bike. The problem is I dont know much about the market at the minute nor is my judgement as experianced as combining all yours so I thought I'd put it to your encylopedic knowlage base and see what can be suggested.

I hear what you're saying but ruled that out because I felt they're quite a lot of money for what you get.

im trying to edge him towards a curvy but I think he prefers the ideas of plastics to nakeds which IMO isnt the curvy's best look.

I had an old Yamaha XJ400 that blew up and is now a 550. Got that and rode it for a bit. Frankly, it was utter cack from the go. The SV had better wheels, better feel and a nicer engine. Tell him to wind his neck in and buy an SV!

What about a CBR600 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-CBR-600-2001-/170796392665?pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item27c44220d9#ht_500wt_1202)?

E-Bay is listing a few, but they seem a little quick and nimble to me for a first big bike.

insurance on the honda will be much higher than the SV, but will depend on your mates age tbh.

just tell him to give you the £1000 and buy him a curvy custard.

Just give him a slap and put him on an Sv.
YOU know it makes sense.

Owenski
09-03-12, 08:47 AM
I hear the shouts for CBR but think he'll kill him self going straight on at a bend, a little too much poke for a first bike IMO.

And ROFL, you're all doing exactly what I've done. Racked my brains trying to find something that beats the SV and just ended right back up at the SV everytime. I assumed it was because I was bais to the things but it does infact seem its because its just a great choice plain and simple.

Keep the suggestions coming thought please, he's interested in the varients.

Hahahaha nah he's bought himself a gpz900r now for the top gun bike

Who's this for Matt? SV is perfect for the job.

Or this xj600 - doesn't matter if he drops this on a bend!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170795540174?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_808wt_1270

i think you may be giving him less credit than he deserves. if he has passed his test then he is deemed to be a competent rider. people by nature don't have a death wish so he will quickly learn how the right hand controls the speed. the cbr is a quick bike but it also has good suspension and brakes, something the sv has not.

NTECUK

But can a cbr live with a Lambo's 520horses.

Its for Matt Kelley, he is taking his tests in the next week or so.

Honestly Bibio, Im not he used to have a 125nsr but he killed that with poor maintenance.
The same way he killed his Nova, His Polo and His Punto. In fairness his Escort was written off when he drove into someones trailer and his Saxo was repossesed... But his Vito CDi van is going strong...

What ever he gets he wont have it long for 2 reasons:
1, He's very flippent - passing his bike test is his current "thing"
2, If he has it for longer than 6months he'll kill with poor maintenance if it doesnt kill him in the intrim.

I started with this as my budget for a first bike and bought a 96 suzuki bandit which was great!...

If I had the same budget now it would be and older zx6r or more likely a gsxr600 srad, saw a year 2000 gixxer with 16k on the clock, tax/mot and apparently clean sell for £950 when I was shopping around a couple of months back!

Still though had I never owned an SV it would still win over them all for funbike+insurance+running costs combo, kinda like this one: http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/suzuki-sv650-sy/96835246

I'd think a Yamaha DT 125 in supermoto trim is a good start bike : good for the potholes and plenty light, without too much power..

Ideal next step from an Sv :reaper:

Owenski

YAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY

He's willing to consider the SV now IMO thats him sorted the more he looks the more he'll be smitten (especially with a certain organ poking him in the right direction)....

Challenge now is to find an SV for under £1k Ideally around £900 so I can still have some money left to do a full service.
