Might be of use to many, this appears to be Silkolene Super 4 10w40 for £3.75/L instead of £6.07/L (from opie oils). Mine has just arrived =)

Its not the Super 4, its mineral oil.
The part number for 20L of super 4 is 600518400. Super 4 is a semi synthetic.
Aah that's good to know... should probably change it regularly then eh! Any ideas where I can get the Super 4 in bulk??

The COMP 4 meets a higher API specification than the SUPER 4, and is often the same price or cheaper. It's always the one I chose for my SV.
The SV manual doesn't specify whether you should be using a mineral, semi, or synthetic, but I'd have thought that even the mineral oil would last 4000 miles without breaking down due to shear forces, the SV is not a particularly powerful engine. Still not sure I'd have chosen that oil TBH, but that's not down to any scientific rationale, just what I'd be more comfortable with. I put semi-synth in my 43bhp XT600 which never exceeds 6000 revs though I'm sure the oil you've bought would be more than sufficient, and I use fully synth Castrol Power Racing (though I'd be happy using Siklolene PRO 4 also) in my 150bhp Daytona, whereas I could get away with use a semi-synth Castrol Power, or Silkolene COMP 4.

the SV is not a particularly powerful engine.
Oil stress is not proportional to power output.

Well no, mechanical forces on the oil, and heat, but surely in a motorcycle engine where engine and transmission share the same oil, you'd expect mechanical forces on the oil to be higher if your delivering 150bhp to the crank then through the transmission, and not 70bhp. If not why would it not be recommended to run my Daytona on the above mineral oil?

Stress vs force
Hmmm not the oil I'd have chosen either, a case of Ass-uming! I'll have a look at the comp 4 Ralph, where do you get yours from? Opie? I was changing the semi synthetic Halfords stuff every 2k anyway so guess I'll stick to that regime for the time being. Maybe it's anecdotal but the SV's various noises do get louder after the oil's been in for a while and fresh oil seems to quieten them down again... Guess I'll play it by ear ;)

I just used to buy my COMP 4 from wherever it was cheapest on the web, usually an ebay seller.
I just got 4 litres of Castrol Power Racing for my Daytona from Halfords, for the same price as Opie Oils (which was the cheapest on the web!).
