Right, I've been pondering this for a while after seeing a Derren Brown show I believe it was. I knew about the theory of the wisdom of crowds but found it interesting used on the national lottery.
The only crowd I have access to is here so I thought I'd post up a little experiment. Friday seemed like a good day as there are the bored workers, the evening browsers and the hung over weekend browsers tomorrow before I play the numbers.
I want each responder to post 6 numbers (between 1 and 49 if you didn't know) that they would like to enter in the lottery this weekend. I'll correlate the numbers and play a few lines based on the suggestions.
The theory goes that the more suggestions then the more commonalities will come out and the more accurate the answer will be, this of course shouldn't work on random probabilities but I thought it would be interesting to try. (and basically I hate choosing lottery numbers, I also hate using the lucky dip option too so I'm a victim of my own making)
To try and incentivise this I will pledge £500 to each responder If I win over £100k and there are more than 50 responders. (I know, ridiculously unlikely but what have you got to lose?)
I don't want to take away from anyone else's winnings so I'm not asking you to suggest the numbers that you may play each week, suggest ones that you would like played, I know this then opens the gates to everyone suggesting 1,2,3,4,5,6 but that just wastes your time as much as mine so please try and resist the urge :)
And of course seeing as it is a public forum you all have access to the same information so if anyone wanted they can play exactly the same numbers at the end of the submissions.
If anyone is interested enough to want to comment on/mock it can we start a chat thread about it and try and keep this thread just to number suggestions please?
so C'mon, I know you are all as bored as me, here's my initial suggestion to get the ball rolling.
