Hi guys,
I know this has been covered so many times before, but after reading so much contradicting information I am know more confused than ever :( and am hoping that I can get this much discussed issue cleared up once and for all lol. Ok I own a sv650n k4 and will be doing a gsxr front end swap in the next few weeks. I have picked up a set of k6 gsxr 750 front forks and bottom yoke bearings etc... And I will have a machined top yoke coming that I have purchased from forum member gjscott.
Now this is we're I get confused, would I be right in saying that the stock sv650 front wheel and spacers fit in the k6 gsxr 750 forks?? And if I use k6 750 radial calipers I can also use my standard brake discs without any spacers? If this is not the case will I need a k6 750 front wheel? Also there is the question of what I do with the speedo sensor, what is the best way to make it work?
I thankyou all in advance any advice will be greatly appreciated.
no the wheel does not fit. you will need a GSXR wheel from 2000> and a K6> spindle/spacer.

Great that's very helpfull information thank you. I see from your profile picture that you have completed a gsxr conversion. What combination of components did you use? Was the change fairly straight forward for you. I'm still a little bit puzzled about what to do with the speedo sensor too. How did you overcome this?
Sorry for all the questions, but I really appreciate any advice or information that I can get.
gsxr 600/750 k4-5 forks, upper and lower yokes, mudguard.
gsxr 1000 k1-2 front wheel and discs
gsxr 600/750 k6 callipers
speedo, i made my own custom brackets and magnet disc which runs off the rear sprocket (i planned on producing a kit but run out of money)
a few other tarty bits and bobs :-)

Sounds good :) how much of a change did it make to the front end feel/handling of the bike? I can't wait to get mine done. In your opinion what do u think will be the best front wheel to use with k6 gsxr 750 forks? I'm stuck for ideas here as having trouble to source a front wheel.
yup biggest problem is finding a decent front wheel. TBH any wheel from a GSXR 2001 onwards will do. the later K6 onwards have different bolt hole pattern and the discs aren't as readily available. that's why i use a 'diamond' spoke wheel and early 320 discs with K6 callipers. it's a weird combo but works great.
as for handling lets just day that you don't get vision blur at higher speeds and it sticks to the road like shizz to a blanket if set up/serviced right. but the biggest improvement is no more pogostick like symptoms :-) and every time you go over a pot hole you don't think the front end is about to self destruct.
worth it? YES can it be done a different way cheaper and have the same end result? YES

Well worth the time and money upgrading then lol. I have found a TL 1000 front wheel, that according to the guide that the link you posted took me to, will work with 320mm rotors. It also says that with the k6 gsxr 750 radial calipers I will require a spacer of 5mm. Now does the spacer fit between the caliper and the fork leg? Or are they ment to go behind the rotors as they bolt up to the wheel? I really do appreciate you time given in answering all my annoying questions lol :)
the TL1000 wheel does not fit it's the same as the busa/erly GSXR one, what does fit is the SV1000 wheel as its the same as the GSXR.
the only and i mean the only wheels that directly fit are GSXR from 2001 and SV1000, no other wheel will fit unless you are prepared to do some modification or get spacers made. its the outside to outside bearing width and disc centres you need to match up.
if you had access to a machine shop then you could take 1mm from each face of the disc inside mating surface and reduce the wheel spindle and nut by 3.5mm this would let you use an earlier and cheaper wheel. given the cost of machining it's not worth it unless you have the facility to do it yourself.
here is an example of the 'diamond spoke' wheel: (notice the ridge to the top of the spoke)

here is an example of the 2006> wheel: (notice how skinny and flat the spoke is)

Machining could be an option I have access to a lathe and mill at work. Have you seen a guide any where about what to machine down and how much to take of? I would like to use a wheel that is of the same design as my stock sv whell if possible
Somthing Like this

If not I will have to wait for a k1 gsxr front wheel. What do I do with the caliper spacers?
Thanks allot
if you look at the svrider list it gives you the dimensions of the various wheels.
you dont have to use just the GSXR1000 K1 wheel any gsxr 600/750/1000 from k1 onwards will do but to use the 320 discs you will the 'diamond spoke' design wheel.
as i said.. from the chart on svrider you would need to remove 1mm on the back face of each disc carrier the same diameter of the disc mating face of the 'early type wheel (which look identical to the SV wheel)' and 3.5mm from each mating face that contacts the wheel bearings from the spindle and 'collar nut' to bring it in line with the bearing width.
i don't know anyone who has done this and i most certainly haven't but the measurements say that's what need to be done.
as regards the spacer for the callipers its a bit of a complicated washer that replaces the bush in the callipers to raise it up 5mm. you will have to machine a collar like the OEM one but include a 5mm spacer in the middle.

iirc a sv thou front fits some of them
iirc a sv thou front fits some of them
yup as the sv1000 is a diamond spoke and is used on the gsxr as is the spindle from the sv1000.

I think I have sourced a SV1000 wheel with disks from another forum member, so im going to run with that :) Thanks for all your information Bibio
