View Full Version : Powder Coating or Anodising Forks and Yokes?

This is based on a conversation I had with someone a while back, the basis of which was: Dont powder coat your forks because you'll damage the PC when putting tham back through the yokes.
So thinking of coating options I can only reasonably see that I either use powder coating but take it very steady putting them back in, or go for some anodizing. My concern with the anodizing is cost (cos Im a yorkshire) and that it would then look different to the finish on the rest of the powder coated stuff.
SO WHICH DO I DO?
Also I intend to do the the yokes, so would you do the yokes in powder regardless or would you do them the same as the forks wheather they're anodized or powder coated.
LOVE THE POLL!!!

Clearly this isnt a life or death thread, just a light hearted oppinion poll.
Cheers.

IMO matt, powder coating is too thick for this application, unless you can mask off the crucial bits.

Anodise the lot pink, that always looks nice!

Powder coat the yokes, mask off the the inner faces.
I'd anodise the lowers as the PC will chip and look shizzle real quick, although I's rather paint the lowers than do either option.

How much is anodising on average, what type and where from?
I have one of those CNC clutch covers that is anodised gold, but wanted black. Was gonna rattle can it with high temp paint (as I have some) but wondered on cost for anodising.
Apologies for the derail lol

The drz forks are USD but I see where you're coming from.

whats the finish on the forks?
oh sorry its usd so it will be machined. I would get them anodised myself. Get them done properly though else they will fade. However a poweder coated top yoke would look nice as well. But you cant really pc the forks imo.

If there USD, you might have problems re fitting them without damaging the powder coat, it might even be too thick a coating to re fit the forks altogether?
When its freshly done you can still find the PC is still soft enough to scratch

Aye Mavi I think that was the general gist of the conversation I mentioned in the OP.
It does seem Im going to be better off getting them anodized... just got to find a place who do it now lol
With powdercaoting, once you get a ship or a crack, the dirt gets under and its game over. Annodising is different

You could get the lowers powder coated, which is something I'm planning on doing with my USD forks.
I painted my lowers but that's chipped, but at least paint is easy to remove, PC ain't

No,
Not a polishing fan, I'll be using this bike daily and year round.
